My husband and I enjoyed our two nights here. The rooms are nice and the bathrooms have been recently updated. There is air conditioning and everything that you would need in a standard motel type room. The grounds are well kept and the staff at the check in and gift shop are pleasant. The pool is also great for a... More

Gold Rush, silver and gold were discovered in the Valley in the 1850s and borax discovered in the 1880s. Mule-drawn wagons and fortune seekers flooded the Valley to extract these precious resources. In 1933, President Hoover declared Death Valley under federal protection as Death Valley National Monument. In 1994, it was re-designated Death Valley National Park and expanded to his... More

This area offers lodging, swimming, souvenirs, shopping and camping. This is the only place in the middle of the park (between Furnace Creek and Panamint Springs). Since my wife and I cycle (road bikes) we always liked stopping here for a soft serve ice cream and a well deserved rest. It's also a nice place to grab a rocking chair,... More

Stovepipe Wells is a nice little town and we'll worth a visit. It's almost certain that you will pass through it as there are so few centres of population, it and Furnace Creek are about the only two. Nice little visitors centre that tells you about the borax mines, the rolling dunes and the various ghost towns. The people in... More

Our diesel 4x4 camper van blew it's oil cooler near Stovepipe so we eaked our way into Stovepipe camp ground by 9 pm. They had showers and pool access for $4, nirvana!! We took a camp spot in pitch dark near the back. In the morning we found ourselves in a giant parking lot backing up to the Sandune's and... More

We have stayed at Stovepipe Wells for several days almost every spring for many years. It's far less frantic than Furnace Creek and a wonderful setting in which to watch the sun rise over the sand dunes. This year, in addition to our usual awe at the natural beauty and the added bonus of a full moon, we were treated... More

If you need gas, get it here. It's more expensive in Panamint Springs, or Death Valley Junction or Shoshone.

We ate lunch at the Stovepipe Wells Saloon and it was soo much better than the Saloon and only non buffet option in Furnace Creek. Hubby and I shared the chicken quesadilla and a salad. It was tasty, filling and frankly a lot better than the pizza we had at the Furnace Creek Saloon, a day earlier, where our options... More

Did not stay here as the park was full. After driving around for a few days and stopping here twice, this would be my choice of places to stay. This a refreshing modern touch, stores were well stocked with a wide range of gift items, and staff was pleasant, realizing that it has to be a challenge getting workers at such a remote, harsh place.
