We stopped by the dunes on our way out of the park after a two day stay at the Ranch.
We did not walk all the way out, but could see the path and others walking.

if you want to walk out on to the dunes you can find a spot of your own - pretty sunset spot and the sand is so soft - nature is amazing

A trip to Death Valley wouldn't be complete without seeing the sand dunes. We enjoyed walking out onto the sand dunes but it was very hot - would definitely suggest doing this earlier in the morning before the midday heat.

We did this near sunrise and we’re able to see some neat shadows and wildlife tracks, including sidewinder rattler markings. We didn’t go all the way out to the largest dune, but about halfway or so. Enjoyed the walk and the peaceful morning.
There is a bathroom, but someone coming out said there was a spider that looked like a giant crab, so I didn’t go in.

It is an interesting experience. Hike dunes up and down. I recommend using safety glasses to protest your eyes from drifting sand.

The dunes were great. We were there on a very windy day, which I would not recommend, the sand is soft and it is fun to explore.

I'm sure these dunes are scorching in summer, but in March they were lovely. We went about an hour before sunset and stayed through sunset -- many others did the same. Just pick a dune, relax, and watch the ever-changing play of light and shadow. One note: The bugs come out at sunset!

We went there for sunrise. It was amazing! We also found many animal tracks. When we walked to the dunes, we were looking for these, but didn't see any. After sunrise, we walked back to our car, we found a lot , they were near around tress.

You have to stop and take a short hike on the dunes. It's a bit of a challenge. Use caution so that you save your energy to walk back to the car. Touch the sand, absorb the moment. It's worth it.
The far dunes appear closer than they are. A short hike over 1-2 will require about 20- 30 minutes. Wear sturdy shoes, plenty of sunscreen and a hat--even in the winter weather.

Yes, there is a pullout and small parking lot adjacent to the dunes. You can walk out as far as you'd like or take pictures from the car. 4wheel drive is not needed.

Hi, yes you can, there is a paved car park just off the main road and it is then a short walk of about 100 yds to the star tof the dunes themselves.
