Great walk through some beautiful canyons. Only down side is the fairly steep walk up to it, and the rough 1 mile drive to it. Not a problem for younger people.

This is a popular hike in Death Valley because it’s very scenic and young & old can do it. Three points: 1. You’re in Death Valley…so start the hike EARLY in the morning to avoid the sun/heat. 2. Start the hike EARLY in the morning to avoid the crowds, and you’ll have the canyon all to yourself to enjoy. 3. ALWAYS take plenty of water when you hike in a desert. We started this hike at 8:30AM, it was 83 degrees; 20 minutes later we knew we had gotten too late a start, turned around and came back. The next day, we tried again, being at the trailhead by 6:45AM. It was so nice having the canyon to ourselves; the sunrise was beautiful, the air was actually “cool” feeling, even though it was 80 degrees that early in the day and year (end of March). It took us two hours to hike the canyon, stopping often to enjoy the scenery. It’s an easy hike, until the very end, right before you get to the Red Cathedral, at which point it gets very narrow and rocky. It’s in and out the same way, not a loop.

One of our favorite trails in this park! We started about 7:45am and had some beautiful scenery as the sun hit the various types of rock. If we ever return, I would do this hike again. When we finished up around 10, the lot was full so I’m glad we started earlier.

It is a beautiful and easy hike. The walls are different hues of golden. You would see red mountains as well. This hike is a must in the Death Valley National Park.

We did the Golden Canyon to Red Cathedral. It was a nice hike with a view at the end. There is parking at the trail head but it is a popular trail so lots of cars. I gave it 4/5 stars because we liked a couple other hikes better.

This is one of two must-do hikes in Death Valley IMHO -- the other is Mosaic Canyon. This one's a little less strenuous, though you can make it harder by choosing different loop routes. We did an in-and-out that started with a one-hour ranger presentation at 9 am (excellent). Finished the hike on our own.

We walked this trail in the morning, it was a hot day, there wasn't much shade in this trail. We did bring enough water with us.
Just as the name, the canyon is golden color. We walked the spur trail to red cathedral, at the end of this trail, we turned right to get a higher point to overlook the canyon. My husband has fears of height, we got up there, he felt very uncomfortable, so we left quickly.
On the way back, we noticed you can also turn left at the end to overlook the canyon, we couldn't give it a try, not sure if the left side has the better view or better for people with fears of height.

Nice walk up through the canyon. Your experience will vary based on effort and distance. Not alot of information provided with the park maps and information.

We started at Zabriskie point, hiked Gowers Gulch then over to Golden Canyon. Going through GC we did branch off to hike Red Cathedral then went on and finished back at Zabriskie. Very enjoyable hike. Parts of Golden Canyon were along ridges and it got quite windy the day we went. Hiking poles would be helpful on that section.

Very fun hike.

Golden Canyon is an easy hike, and very pretty - but it is well worth it, to go beyond to Red Cathedral!
