It is worthwhile, if you have the choice, to go when more of the road is open, as the vista changes drastically from different locations. On the other hand, it was still magnificent when we went with just two viewpoints open. Take your time. Walking...More

Crater lake in Oregon is just stunning. I hadn't really heard of it until a friend who lived in USA posted photos and after seeing his pictures we planned it into our driving holiday up the US west coast, and were so glad we did....More

We drove to the edge of Crater Lake on June 1, 2017, but the heavy snow pack had closed the rim entirely for normal vehicles. The lake is quite beautiful in winter and it is the deepest lake in the United states, about 300 feet...More

When my husband and I arrived, it was cold, cloudy and there was snow on the ground. As we drove around the rim, the sun slowly came out and it turned in to a beautiful morning. The color of the lake is amazing...something you definitely...More

We went in the first part of May so all sides except the south side were closed. It was so worth it! The visitors center is always open except in the worst weather. Snow was three cars high along the road and the center was...More

Have your camera ready, because about every pullout will prompt the need to record myriad amounts of bodacious scenery.

I have tried to do the rim drive many times, but have been stopped by snow and road construction. I finally made it. Crater Lake National Park is absolutely stunning- the drive around the rim is just breathtaking.

Crater Lake National Park is absolutely stunning- the drive around the rim is just breathtaking. There was road construction happening in the park while we were there and it did not detract from the beauty at all. Go see it at sunrise as well! Also,...More

Even with having only one day to spend at Crater National Park, and being the most likely only rainy day in July, The Rim Drive was just incredible. Due to the hard, long winter, the Rim Drive was only open half way for vehicles, and...More

This drive offers so many different views of crater lake that at first before you take the drive may appear all the same. Each stop on the drive offers new and completely different looks from different elevations of the lake and the crater. Many upper...More

We traveled in a counter clockwise direction. The Sun Notch trail is a must see. Park in the lot on the left and hike about 1 mile round trip. The trail takes you in a loop to several spots where you can take in the... More

We came from Crater Lake to Bend. I generally found the drive straight and boring. I never felt like a white knuckle kind of drive anywhere around the rim.
