There are a few buildings related to the pioneer period but not as many as I'd hoped for and they are not staffed so you don't get a good feel for how they were used and the hardships faced on a daily basis.

Near the visitor center of Capitol Reef NP, it is a historic district, including schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, orchard and other building and features. My daughter is interesting in the fruit-pick in the apricot orchard. You may pick the fruit and eat there. And if you...More

Fruita is an interesting and historical spot included in Capitol Reef. Many different fruit groves have been here for many decades and they continue to bear fruit. Apricots are for sale in the grove for a moderate price in the early summer. Also, you can...More

Not every national park has a pioneer homestead within its boundaries. What a fun look at how these folks eked out a living. You can still pick fruit off the trees they planted over a 100 years ago.

Something totally different that my kids loved. Check the harvest calendar to see what is in season. Nice little museum/gift shop in the area. Picnic right by the creek! Nice area. Very relaxing. See a lot of wildlife in the area.

While Capital Reef was a bit of a let down, the baked fruit pies from Fruita were a high point of our national park journey. Apple, cherry, mixed fruit and more. Take your choice and sit under the trees and enjoy perfection.

I loved learning about the history of Fruita by listening to the short audio tours and reading the signs. There is a barn, school building, cabin, and many other sights to see!

Fruita is a small portion of the park on scenic highway 24. We came through here in the afternoon and saw mule deer and a number of other animals and birds. The birdwatching was especially good by the river adjacent to the highway..

This is a nice little area within the Capitol Reef National Park. I am only rating it average since is it such a very small area within a spectacular area. It was interesting that this was founded in 1880 and deserted in 1955 - and...More
