This is a great introductory hike to the Canyonlands especially for gearing you up for more strenuous hikes elsewhere in the park. Good elevation climb and the option to hit one, two or a whole trail full of viewpoints. Can get very windy on top.

Lots of unusual geological activity is visible on the sometimes steep hike of a little less than one mile, one way. Actually, many people turn around after the second promontory, thinking that the trail has ended. You need to continue on the trail, downwards, to...More

The upheaval dome is accessed after a short walk via two viewpoints. The second viewpoint requires a longer walk (approx 1 mile) but is worth it if you can manage it. This geologic feature seems quite out of place, and experts aren't entirely sure what...More

Questions still abound about what actually caused this geological phenomenon. Definitely check it out and decide for yourself.

The first overlook of Upheaval Dome is 0.8 mi/1.3 km roundtrip with an elevation change of 100 ft/30 m and should take about 1 hour. If you're up for hiking on more difficult terrain, the second overlook goes beyond the first overlook by 1 mi/1.6...More

It's a steep hike. There are stairs in some places. Much of the trail is rocky, and in some places a little slippery. People were puffing and panting along this trail. But the view at the top is terrific, and very different from what we...More

From the parking lot, you have 2 options to - you can take the shorter trail to Upheaval Dome or there is an extended one with another view point. We took the shorter one. It was pretty easy and we enjoyed the views.

I made the hike to both viewpoints, but found that I woudl be better off with hiking boots and less clothes. I started in mild weather but as it took about an hour each way, the temperature rose and I got very hot and tired...More

This is a short hike from the parking lot. However it is a hike and not just a walk. It involves hiking up some rocks and is about 0.8 miles or so. The hike up to the overlook is very beautiful. We completed it just...More
