To view the best of the Mesa Arch, you definitely need to be there during the sun raise time (Sun raise time + 1 hour). If you are a photographer, you should be there at least 1 hour before sun raise. Also you need a...More

Most famous for the iconic images of the rising sun reflecting a flame orange glow on the underside of the arch while it frames the canyon and mountains in the distance, it is not possible for many to arrive prior to sunrise to see this...More

A reasonable walk to reach this arch from the parking area but path well marked even if there were no other visitors, some hope!!! Great sight of the arch as you approach it and of the surrounding area. There is a very step drop into...More

There will be more beautiful arches in Arches NP. But this one is a good one. Just a half mile walk from the parking doable for most of us.

The only arch in Canyonlands is situated half a mile from the parking. It's an easy walk and the view is great. You won't be the only there but it was quite easy to take a picture without people in it.

This is probably the most famous spot in the park and when you get there you will understand why. Why the arch is far smaller than you think the views when you look through it are astounding. You can not only see the La Sal...More

This is just incredible with the formation itself and then looking beyond to the distant mountains. Just a magnificent sight. Photos are OK but experiencing this in person is a highlight of any trip to this area of the country. We rate it right up...More

One definitely needs to see Mesa Arch, not necessarily just at sunrise. Be warned that you will find this arch crowded and the people not always the most polite with respect to photography. People wanting 'selfies' of themselves with the backdrop of the arch and...More

If you are limited on time when in Island In The Sky take the time to see this arch. It's a bit scary getting near the edge so stay back a safe distance. The sights are great and the hike is easy. You can go...More

This is a great place for photos in early AM (faces to the sunrise) or just before sunset (as the colors and shadows start to deepen).

So if sunrise is +/- 6:40 on the day I plan to be there, what would you suggest is a good time to head out there? I want to be early and I know there'll be plenty of other folks. Also, how many entrances are there to Canyonlands? Thanks in advance, this forum helps so much!

If you are staying in Moab. I would leave at least 75 minutes before sunrise (depending on hotel location maybe even earlier) The scenery on the way in is spectacular even 20 minutes before sunrise! Better to get there early... More

The arch is in the national park. Anyone can drive into the park to see the arch. If you want the pictures at sunrise, get there early. People are there up to an hour before sunrise to get the closest spots.

Absolutely, visit Canyonlands. Most of the great views in the Island in the Sky are only steps away from your vehicle...no hiking necessary. Mesa Arch does require a short hike and you will have to go over a small hill... More
