In light of the end of commercial guiding permits, and due to the fact that official ranger tours are going to fill up *fast* this year, I just wanted to say that exploring the furnace on your own (with a $6 permit, of course) is not nearly as difficult as is often described. If you're moderately skilled at off-trail desert... More

Our group of friends have visited recently the Fiery Furnace. What an experience! We saw interesting rock formation, high walls and fins that creates a fun red maze. Paid $6 entrance fee per person at visitor centre. This is a highly recommended activity at Arches National Park. Wear comfortable shoes, bring enough water with you and remember how you got... If you're looking for an adventure and prepared to do some limited climbing, this is the place for you. There are no trails, and it is like a maze, but it's worth the time. The park service makes to watch a video, and they only let 50 people in per day (permit required). You need to carry lots of water,... More

Fiery Furnace is 15 miles from the park entrance. The attraction is an area of red rock formations that glow red in the setting sun. For most people, it will be a quick stop at a parking area that has a restroom and short walkway to an overlook. Hikes into the rocky passages are available, but require a guide or... More

As this was our first time in the fiery furnace we took a ranger guided tour and I recommend this. Our ranger took us on an interesting route which all of our party managed despite some mildly tricky scrambling manoeuvres. I learned a lot about the soil, the life cycle in the pot holes and other creatures that live in... More

I went with a private guide (Navtec). He gave me a hand a number of times & explained how to get through a few of the strange places. I HATE heights, but managed to do everything but the last part of the small detour to see Secret Arch...it involved navigating a VERY narrow ledge with a drop-off on one side... More

It is a MAZE! and amazing! We are experienced hikers and using a GPSr - yes, we got a signal most places - with the Tracking Feature enabled so you can see where you have been and should head worked well. We found the secret arches - not nearly as spectacular as others but unique due to their location. We... More

I keep going back. In spite of all the people, it never feels really crowded. Just have to make sure you keep looking to get further back in there

We had a great time on this adventurous hike. As long as you are fairly active person, you should have no problem on this hike. I have a fear of heights that I have worked years to over come. I did not have any problems. It was a great morning spent. Plenty of rest time along the way. IT IS... More
