Le Quesnoy is the site of one of the four New Zealand war memorials designed by Christchurch architect Samuel Hurst Seager, the others being at Messines Ridge (Flanders), Longueval (the Somme) and Gallipolli. The memorial is set in the town walls and is just one...More

An amazing fortified town where on the 4th of November 1918, members of the NZ army liberated the town from the Germans. All the towns people survived the Nz did not and some through their courage paid jwith their lives.

Well preserved city fortifications. The walk around takes about 1,5 hours. Indications for the tour are not always clear, but you can get a map for free at the tourist office 1 rue du Maréchal Joffre.

Shocking to see the prices of houses in this town. Some for less than 50k Euro. Looks like the town is gradually slipping into oblivion, contrary to a city like Dutch Naarden. Le Quesnoy and Vauban deserve better than this.

Small town still surrounded by the Vauban fortification. Excellent site that has resisted time. Really a piece of history frozen in time. Take the walk around the ramparts and enjoy. It is really worth it.

Just visiting this nice charming fortified village Le Quesnoy. Nice for a walk around the walls, in the town and nearby lake or étang. A must for those from New Zealand, with the various memorials to the New Zealand soldiers who liberated the town.

As kiwis we went to Les Quesnoy because of the WW1 history. The NZ division in its last act of the war liberated the town from German occupation. We were impressed with the extent of the fortifications so they were worth seeing in their own...More
