Go to swim only

Amazing sea. Only. Rent a boat, swim inside the amazing small bay. The islands are neglected, bad services, very rude people (greedy!)

Beautiful Scenery
Oct 2019
We toured around both San Domingo and San Nicola. San Nicola is the less populated of the two islands. We walked up what seemed like hundreds of steps seeing only occasional houses or shops which were mostly shuttered because the summer season was over. We finally reached the top to see the former monastery and old church. The views from the top were wonderful. After walking down, we boarded a boat and went to San Domino. This island definitely had more population. Some of our group rode up to the restaurant but others decided to walk. We walked up a gradual incline along the road somewhere between 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately, we did not have more time to explore the islands.

Beautiful but overcrowded in season
Aug 2019
Long journey on the boat, then other boat to the island where you swim. 30 EUR for an umbrella in Cala Spido where the water is quite dirty as the bay is overcrowded in season. And after few hours you have to go back to catch the boat. In my opinion, not worth the money in August. Could be different in lower season.

We came with an afternoon ferry and left about the same time next day. We gad had a couple of hot days in Rome so we mostly relaxed by the hotel pool. Had we had another day I would definitely rent a boat and drive around the islands.

Idyllic but very small

We stayed for three nights on the islands at the Kyrie hotel. My wife saw the archipelago on Gino Di Campo's cookery show and felt compelled to go. I found the planning side of things quite tricky so would like to invite anyone from UK with questions to contact me as I'm sure I could help.

We drove from Rome Ciampino to Termoli (great motorway drive through spectacular scenery and very little traffic- one of the best road trips we have done in Europe). We stayed overnight in a B&B in Termoli called Salsedine which was fantastic (80 euros) and, overlooked the port. Termoli was a great town for an overnight stay. We parked the car in the public car park down below and in the morning we drove round the corner into the dedicated car park for the ferry (8 euros per day).

All the hotels on Tremiti seem to be of a similar standard and as other people have mentioned, there is an element of time standing still, unfortunately the time which has stood still here is the 1970's. The Kyrie was good, although the chalet style room was a bit dated.

The islands are VERY small, we walked the circumference of San.Domino in a couple of hours in baking heat, you can drop down to a number of small coves and if you are a good swimmer the opportunities are extensive. We should probably have skipped the north side of the island and gone up and down to a few more coves on the south side which come one after another, it was too hot to do the climbing up and down by the time we walked back round to the south.

The restaurants in the central "town" (I use the word loosely- its a square with a couple of oddly straight streets containing prefabricated buildings emanating out from it) are okay but nothing special, Altro Faro was our favourite.

Once we got going the boat trip around the islands was good and reasonably priced at 18 euros but horribly unorganised. We were told to come for 10a.m but it was after 11 before it left. Again if you are a strong swimmer there is good opportunity to dive off the boat.

San Nicola island is a very worthwhile outing, the extensive grounds of the monastery would be a top tourist attraction anywhere else in the world but they would seem to be being left to go to ruin, the views from the top are amazing.

The main beach on San Domino is very small and busy but the water is crystal clear and very warm, we spent two late afternoons on it- very enjoyable.

All in all a beautiful place but I would say that a couple of nights is more than enough. (We were booked on the 5pm ferry back to the mainland after our three night stay but changed it to 9.30 in the morning)

One last thing- mosquitos in abundance in the evening!

Clear sea!
Jun 2019 • Couples
After visiting the castle on the isle of St Nicola we took the boat to St Domino. This has a small sandy beach, but unfortunately quite crowded. The sea however is christal-clear, you can see the fishes even close to the shore.
The challenge of this pearl will be how to keep it clean, free of plastics, etc. Now already you find litter on too many places...

Very beautiful waters
Sep 2018 • Couples
No doubt the islands are worth a look, however there are very limited services and beach access. I have been to several rocky beaches that are able to allow bathing in a dignified way. Here bathers are sausaged into a small beach on San Domenica or forced among the comings and goings of water taxis on San Nicola. Of course there is the round the island tour and zodiac rentals. The locals from my observation were not especially hospitable. The water is incredibly beautiful and as far as my observations go I was there for about 7 hours so take it for what it’s worth.

Incredible place
Aug 2018
Great place. Clear water, amazing food, scuba diving or just snorkeling. Recommended for singles, couples or families.
Rent a zodiac for a day and explore the islands from the sea, then walk around and explore them by land.
Board one of the many boats offering full day and enjoy a relaxing time.

I went to the Islans the last summer and I have a very amazing experience about every aspect of that place: the sea, so transparent and clean, the food very good, the people really kind, the house where I stayed, fresh, quiete and calm, immersed into the pinewood... all all all perfect for me! Go and enjoy!
