We walked at least 10 to 15 minutes from the Tennoji JR station, but its all right for us as we wanted to visit this ancient historical building. Really, when we stepped into the temple a feeling of tranquility washed over me. Really felt very...More

Probably because we arrived late afternoon and it was drizzling.. The temple was quiet with a sense of tranquility that is often missed because of the heavy tourist traffic Love it this way.

We walked quite a distance from JR Tennoji station but were quite disappointed that the temple grounds (though very huge and have many buildings) looked sparse and miserable because its mainly concrete. Really a huge contrast from the temples in Kyoto.

Nice visit to a very traditional temple. People go here to deliver their family members remains so they can create a buddha out of it once every 5 to 10 years.

Apparently, one of the earliest Buddhist temples in Japan and founded by Shotoku Taishi. This was the draw card for me, so I set off. It's about a 10 min walk from Tennoji Station and to be honest, you'd thnnk the locals might make more...More

First of all, it is a complex of buildings, temples, and cemetery. We accidentally came to the temple from the cemetery side and even that was interesting. That day there was some holiday and there were a lot of people selling their handmade things, a...More

Peaceful, restful, spiritual temple in the city. Many different buildings on the site but the Pagoda tower is the highlight. A large pond full of turtles in front of one of the temples were fun to watch. There is also a cemetery with really ornate,...More
