Great shrine in the middle of Fukuoka
Nov 2019 • Couples
A beautiful old shrine built in 757 with lots to see. Gorgeous Gingko trees, the crane fountain, the amazing float used during the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival which is rebuilt every year and on display here. The detail & colours are incredible. A 1000 year old Gingko tree is also situated here. A lovely place to walk around.

Interesting to watch the local religious rituals. Nice architecture too. Interesting Easter egg were the two anchors from the Mongolian ships that were shipwrecked during Kublais failed invasion of Kyushu

Great Shrine with Chanting Monks
Jan 2020 • Couples
We were here on Sunday and they had a ceremony. Lots of people lined up to pay tribute to the Yamakasa god, and they rang the bells for blessings.
Beside the shrine, there is where the Yamakasas are decorated. The shrine houses many other interesting buildings and is worth visiting.

Activities during Lunar New Year
Jan 2020 • Couples
Came here for Lunar New Year prayer and blessings. This shrine is dedicated to Hakata Gion Yamakasa God. Absolutely beautiful and highly recommended to visit.

Don’t forget to see the back and front of the huge Yamakasa on display when you enter the shrine.

Shrine in the Middle of Fukuoka
Dec 2019
Right off the Kawabata Shopping / Pedestrian Street is the Kushida Shrine. Not a very big shrine but if you are in the area, it's worth a quick look. Just don't expect too much. It is right between the Nakasukawabata and Gion subway stations right in the heart of Fukuoka.

Huge shrine, great float display
Nov 2019
I was really impressed with this shrine, and not just because I got my goshuincho! The koi, the massive festival float, they all need to be seen to be believed. There are a few steps but I enjoyed myself at ground level just fine. This shrine is a short walk from the craft center and from there it isn't too far to canal city

Fantastic Cultural Experience
Nov 2019
This shrine was recommended to us by the tourist information advisor. We are so appreciative of her tips. We were wide eyed with wonder the moment we arrived there, our attention captured by the 10 meters tall giant float decorated with interesting traditional figures and scenes. At least one hour is needed to explore the grounds and examine the many fascinating items of interest which includes a well surrounded by three cranes - there is a legend that water of this well grants longevity and eternal youth.

A place to walk and enjoy your time and spirituality, you do have to climb a lot of stairs and it is not wheelchair accesible
