In the heart of Japan
Oct 2020
Back in 1989/1990, the uncle of a friend of mine spent 9 months in Nagoya as an au pair boy, he did a lot of sightseeing and saw many landmarks of Japan. The Nagoya Castle made no exception: as I told before about the Osaka Castle, it’s not the original one, but it’s well-built and majestic. You will recognize it from the golden carps on the roof!

Very interesting even with Main tower closed
Sep 2020 • Business
As this with many attractions world wide, parts of the Nagoya Castle are closed, however I did really enjoy my visit and the informative signs throughout the sections that were available to tour.
I was surprised to learn it took so long to restore such cultural heritage piece after WWII.

Worth the small fee.

Fascinating piece of history!
May 2019
When in Nagoya, you can't miss visiting this castle.

I went with new friends from several countries spending a weekend in the middle of the event we attended.

The castle is well maintained and beautiful. It doesn't take too much to see the inside. I would say about two hours is more than enough.

If you go at the right time, the blossoms look amazing for pictures. Also, the ninjas and samurai roam around and are friendly to take pictures. They put on some shows. Definitely worth it to come and experience the culture and check out the scenery.

Lovely Place!

Main Castle was closed but grounds were beautiful.
Oct 2019
Wish we knew that the main castle was closed during our visit. Entrance fee was 500 Yen.
We were able to walk around the grounds which took about 40 minutes. Enjoyed the scenery.
There were also Samurai performances and photo taking.

Beautiful castle in middle of Nagoya
Jan 2020 • Couples
Although not as popular as Osaka castle or Himeji castle, Nagoya castle still packs lot of charm. The place complex with replica art and paintings gave a mesmerizing glimpse of medieval life. Worth spending an afternoon here.

My favorite castle in Japan by far. Main Tower is currently closed because of the ongoing maintenance from the damage of the recent Earthquake.

Nice place to visit
Jan 2020
Nagoya castle is one of the good place to visit. We stayed in Sakae area and walked to Nagoya castle, took approx 30 mins. Can take subway to Shiyakusho station or take the Meguru tourist loop bus. 500 yen for entrance, open from 9am to 4.30 pm.There was construction going on and the castle due to reopen in 2022! But still can walked around the castle. And we were lucky that we managed to see the Ninja show and enjoyed our Match ice cream.

Inexpensive Attraction - Part of Sightseeing Bus
Jan 2020
We were recommended by the Tourist Information Centre to take the sight seeing bus for 500yen one day to visit as many as possible of the 11 stops that we may be interested in We ended up only having time to do 2 but they were both worth it.

This castle is rebuilty beautifully. It is has a number of interior buildings that you can enter and visit but every time you enter a building you must take off your shoes (use their slippers provided) and store your shoes and bags in separate lockers. The site is quite a good size. You will need at least 2 hours to fully visit the building and its surrounding gardens.

In 2018, a strip of restaurants became available near the Nagoya Castle to enable visitors to the castle to sample cuisine well known in Nagoya. The street is called Yoshinao zone. Its immediately to the right of the castle's main entrance. While it is convenient place to stop for lunch, it is on the more expensive side for the quality and presentation of the food provided. You may want to hold off and go to the next stop before having a meal.

Entrance is 500 yen per person - not my favorite Castle in Japan
Jan 2020
Nagoya Castle is easy to visit if you are staying in Nagoya. You can just take the Subway to Shiyakusho Station. From Nagoya Station, it only takes 20 minutes on subway. Then it's a 10 minute walk to the castle. We actually ended up buying a Nagoya Bus and Subway Day Pass for 620 yen per person.

Once you are at Nagoya Castle, entrance is 500 yen per person.

This castle is actually a reconstruction of the original castle. We came on January 3 and it was pretty crowded. Definitely not one of my favorite castles in Japan. We also visited Inuyama Castle the same day and that was preferable. And Himeji Castle I thought was much better.

Nice Castle in Nagoya
Dec 2019
Accessible by subway and is a good place to visit for a couple of hours. A free English tour is offered at 1pm and the guide waits at the entrance of one of the gates. There are several ninjas and samurais that roam around the castle whom you can take nice photos with.

The main castle was closed for renovation, but the Hommaru Palace was open for visitors and provided an interesting look at life in early Japan. There are a few souvenir shops outside the castle as well as several places to eat. Our visit was pleasant, and we were able to take great family photos around the area.
