Would recommend Dave's tour to anyone coming to Ireland. He is knowledgeable, entertaining and incredibly responsive. When we had questionable weather, he changed plans to provide us with the best possible experience. He was always very clear about our itinerary for the day, so for you planner types, he lets you know what's happening! He had a song and/or story for almost every location and made sure each of us got what we wanted out of his trip. We experienced so much in 6 days and I didn't worry about a thing!

This was my second Wolfhound Tour - both deserving of 5 stars. My first tour was 9 years ago with my family on the Southwest tour and this time with a group of friends on the West tour. Both were absolutely wonderful experiences and the without a doubt the best tours I've been on. Most of the credit goes to Dave, the guide. He is part storyteller, historian, naturalist, and comedian making the rides in the van as enjoyable as the activities and gorgeous scenery. He knows his stuff, loves his country and is able to find cool out of the way spots for hikes and picnics that make you feel like you have Ireland all to yourselves. He tailors the trips to the group and makes sure everyone has a great time and gets the most out of their day. The accommodations he chooses are also top notch and comfortable. Our group of friends and those we met on the tour had the best time and will always be fans of Wolfhound!

My husband and I just returned from a 6 day tour of the Southwest of Ireland with Wolfhound Adventure Tours. This was a small group of 13 of us in a van traveling around with our tour guide. We hiked at least once a day and stayed at B&Bs at night. We even went on a horseback ride.
We had a wonderful time seeing the sites which included amazing scenery, castles, abbeys, sheep (and more sheep), and standing stones (my favorite). We also enjoyed the various pubs (and Guinness) along the way and listening to the local entertainment.
The best part of the tour was our amazing guide (and driver) Dave O'Connor. He put his heart and soul into the trip. He has a tremendous fund of knowledge about the history of Ireland from medieval times to the present, and seemed to really enjoy enlightening us. He entertained us with stories and songs making the van rides very enjoyable. He worked hard at pleasing everyone.
I am already missing Ireland, Dave, and everyone we traveled with.

I just returned from the Wolfhound Adventure Tour of Southwest Ireland. Traveling the backroads of the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry and the Berra Peninsula enabled us to see the spectacular landscapes of Ireland, observe dolphins and a whale, and visit local towns and pubs to interact with the locals. The most impressive aspect of the tour was our guide, Dave O’Connor. He created a friendly, lively and enjoyable atmosphere on the tour, providing daily options for those who sought challenging hikes or for those who sought a short walk to a local sight.
Dave entertained us during our drives to the various sights with jokes, music, and with historical and cultural information. The tour ended with a night stay at the impressive Gougane Barra Hotel. I highly recommend this tour.

If you're looking to tour Ireland, your search can end here. We just finished our 6 day Southwest trip and couldn't be happier with the experience. We explored many different landscapes and towns and got a real authentic taste of Ireland. Dave our tour guide was amazing; he handled all the logistics of the trip, added some humor and history, and was able to take us to some hidden gems you're not going to find on one of the big 50 seat coach tours. If I ever did a tour of another part of Ireland, there is no way I would do it with anyone other than Dave and Wolfhound. Unforgettable experience.

This is THE tour operator to use in Ireland. Dave O’Conner, the owner and sole operator, is what makes Wolfhound the exceptional, superior small tour bus in all of Ireland. He is such a natural, gifted raconteur with so many years of experience that his riders are constantly entertained by his knowledable insights into Irish history, culture, and nature. He fills your days with conversation, music, historical sights, hikes, picnics, flora and fauna. His choice of hotels and eating establishments is spot on. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to you an adventure with Wolfhound!

My family and I could do this tour again and again and never be bored. Dave is a very rare gem of a person who guides his group from one gorgeous point to another while providing a rich backstory that included Ireland’s ecology, folklore, and complex history. We stayed active on magnificent walks through dreamlike settings (yes, they were really dreamlike; I cannot think of a more suitable word.). This tour achieves something unusual: each day was absolutely packed, but it was never overwhelming. Dave is (deeply) knowledgeable, practical, and wise, so we always felt safe and confident. Best of all, I was able to fully relax because I was not making a hundred decision a minute for myself and my family! It was all beautifully planned!

Just returned from a Southwest Ireland tour with Wolfhound Adventures and it was the experience of a lifetime. Dave (company owner and tour guide) is so knowledgeable about the history, language, music, and flora/fauna of each area we visited. It was such a nice blend of adventure (hiking, kayaking, beaches) and culture (ruins, castles, folklore, music, etc). The scenery both driving and during hikes is breathtaking! I especially enjoyed our time in the Beara peninsula and walking the Healy Pass. Dave is also great about having multiple options available for the day dependent on weather. The rooms we stayed in were nice and the food excellent. This tour lets you get off the beaten track with an experienced guide who knows how to get you to Ireland’s hidden gems. On a personal note, we made this a family trip with grandparents, adult children, and grandchildren and Dave was so patient and kind with our young ones and found activities that were enjoyable at all levels. He truly went above and beyond. You’ll notice in the other reviews that there are many repeat customers, and I understand why! I walked away from this trip feeling that we made the most of our time in Ireland and got a glimpse into its soul. I wouldn’t hesitate to return with Wolfhound or recommend it to others as you will be in capable hands and good company.

What do you do if you are an avid athlete and traveler but your sister is not? Meet each other in the middle on Dave's tour! This was a perfect compromise for our fitness levels as Dave's style of tour is both casual, packed with things to do, virtually punctual, and flexible to the group (which was small enough to accommodate "gentler" hikes for some AND longer hikes for others.) Besides that, he made every minute count with super interesting stories, fables, background history, and music that tied it all together. The inns were comfortable, the scenery beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

If you are searching for a Tour guide for your Ireland Vacation just say "Yes" to Dave O'Connor and his Wolfhound Adventure Tour Bus.
Rationale (aka: reason) There is an old saying " Jack of all trades but master of none".
But I can with strong conviction that the above expression does not, I repeat does not apply to Dave O'Connor and his Magical Tour Bus. His expertise is quite vast and includes: Superb Motor Coach Driver, Historian, Outdoorsman, Logistics Genius, Navigator, Humorist, Naturalist (loving all Sea and Land Animals), Very mindful and aware of the time (aka: punctual), An excellent listener, who will kindly answer all of your questions, Loves his Irish Music and some American tunes. I would give him a rating of 9.5 out of 10. Remember Dave is not perfect! Dave has unique gift that makes every customer of his feel comfortable and special. This review sounds a "Bit over the Top" but Dave deserves every single word. Honestly, I cannot find anything negative about my experience. MY family included 11 members (myself, my wife, my 3 children and their spouses and 3 grandchildren). A real family affair and now Dave O'Connor is an honorary member of our family. I could go "on and on" but I will end this review and leave you with this thought. If you are searching for a tour guide for your Ireland Vacation just say "Yes" to hiring Dave O'Connor and his magical tour bus company, you will not regret it.

How much extra did you wind up spending during your tour? I'm pleased with the tour's price but would be disappointed if it winds up doubling with extras as I know that not all the activities and meals are included. Thanks!

about $1,000 for two but we stayed two nights in Dublin prior at Jury's Hotel. Meals were affordable for sure.

Hi - wondering if these type of tours would be suitable for a solo traveller?
Written 12 January 2018
Most definitely. Both times I was solo, and there was a mix of couples, solos, and mother/daughters that made up the groups.

When Dave says you should bring a "small" case, it makes me rather nervous as it's a 6 day trip. How big does he mean? Also, any suggestions of what kind of clothes to pack for the South West tour in early September? Thanks!
Written 28 July 2016
Hi, Dave is pretty flexible about the size of the suitcases - he just doesn't have room for 12 gigantic bags in the trailer. I took a medium-sized rolling bag and it was fine - plenty of room for my stuff (plus we stayed 3 days in Dublin). Pack layers and waterproof hiking shoes! I also purchased a few pairs of the Travex brand pants from Eddie Bauer, and they worked out great. I could wipe off the dust/dirt from the day, and wear the next day. I alternated blue and gray. The weather is unpredictable, so you have to be ready for that--and lots outdoors. We biked 4 times and hiked 3. I took the West tour in late May/early June - packed rain gear and didn't need it. We were lucky:) BTW you won't need anything dressy- we ate in pubs every night, and casual was fine. Some days we didn't even have time to do more than freshen up and change shoes. The one thing I didn't pack was a swimsuit - wish I had one when we went sea kayaking, but not sure if you will be doing that. You are going to have a GRAND time! I'm jealous!!!!!

Looking for a tour of Ireland in Sept. Usually like to spend around 10 to 12 days on trips. Hav looked at some escorted trips but not sure how yours works. There would be two retired couples. What r accommodations, what kind of transportation, pickup at airport, etc. tks

We are retired and loved the trip. Dave (guide) has his own van with trailer for bikes and luggage (your choice whether or not to do the hikes, bikes or other) He is a fantastic historian and storyteller (speaker system in van so we could all hear). Hotels were fine but not 5 ⭐️ He is very good about emailing and answering anything - we were very pleased with his trip. Suggest you contact him through website -Wolfhoundtours.

Hello Wolfhound Adventure Tours Staff:
We are very close to booking our 6 day South West tour with Wolfhound in October of 2015. Under your "terms and conditions para #1.1 "payment in full" - we planned on booking with the 15% deposit and then full payment 45 days prior to the tour. Will this constitue a booking? Can you address this matter further?
Para #6.4 "The use of alternative vehicles"...how often does this happen and what are the alternative vehicles that are used?

I am a customer not staff, but everything is very straight forward with .dave O'Connor the owner. Highly intelligent lovely man. This was one of the best holidays we have ever had and we are very well travelled. Dave goes out of his way to make certain everyone is doing what they enjoy. Food, accommodation were all great. Believe the reviews.
