The Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage in the year 2013. It’s rather the area between Honghe and Yuanyang County than just one single place to visit and see this entire masterpiece of the Hani people. Public transportation to this area is available but not well developed as it is still a... More

You can see the rice terrace and sunrise here. reflection of the sun is so nice. The terrace itself is also good to visit. You can walk along the field to get more view.

Entrance fee of 100RMB/person is expensive, but the terraced fields with water in them are picturesque and they are absolutely worth a visit!

The Hani rice terrace is a gorges place. Very unique. Build over hundreds of years and still on use to let a minority to survive. You can find many locations out of the main scenic visitor points to have a awesome view to the terrace. The only not so nice point is the infrastructure is not so developed and construction... You can have several marvelous views across the rice terraces and the mountain scenery without paying for a ticket. Just ask the management of your guesthouse or one of the drivers of the minibuses, some Chinese knowledge could be helpful. Sure, you need some luck concerning the weather but the area is nothing for a one day stopover anyway.

We went there for the market and saw many of the Hani minority tribes. They were shy and didn't make too much eye contacts. But our guide talked to a few and they responded. But I like the variety of the vegetables and food items they were selling and the colorful costumes they were wearing. It was a fun experience.

Getting here from Kunming is not easy and should be undertaken when the conditions are optimal for the experience to be generally worth the time and trouble. I was there last week and most of the terraced fields had water, which made them quite photogenic. I've been here before, in January, and they are very pretty then as well, but... More

You will not see so many rice terraces in other places in the world. Views on the morning and in the evening were different. So you should hire a car with a driver.
