Only 4 stars from me following an afternoon boat trip. In the afternoon, the light comes from behind the cliffs so some of the effects are kind of diminished. Other people went in the morning, when the light shines from the water to the inside of the caves, and said they were amazed.

We avoided the tour operators and instead went with a small family affair about 4km on the left as you drive further south of Puerto Rio Tranquillo. Small boats that could steer into the caves and get really close to the fascinating rock formations

We were short on time so decided to pay a little extra and hire a glass-bottomed motor-boat. We were 3 people. As the weather was quite cold and windy, we were pleased to be sheltered. The crew were very, very friendly and helpful - but didn't speak English. The trip was worth every penny - the rock formations are amazing.

A good tour which you cannot miss when you are at Puerto Rio Tranquilo. The colour of the marble looks so good in several ways that you view it. Very nice. There are a lot of agencies at the river bank which offer the tour. It costs 10.000 per person and it doesn't really matter which agency you go to.... More

Well done Chile for preserving these beautiful ancient caves that have evolved through natural erosion. Only takes an hour and worth a visit if you are passing.

Amazing boat trip to marble caves. Don't miss this. We went from a little further past town and saved ourselves some cash. Trip was great. Photos are amazing. Rug up, winds can get cold

The caves where great and it's definitely worth a visit. You can you to balmaceda by plane and there is a shuttle which will drive you to coyhaique. There are different hostels and it would be better to stay there a night. I can recommend the hostel salamandra which is quite up in the hills. You can buy a bus... More

This is a beautiful family outing. Being on the boat heading out to the caves is a peaceful, serene experience. Totally recommended!

TL;DR A must visit. It's a little hard to get to, but worth it. This is what brought us to Chilean Patagonia. Many years ago, my husband saw a photo of these caves and just had to go. I must say they didn't disappoint. The water is unbelievably blue, which is why you see the blueish hue in the marble!... More
