We arrived in late June and the parking was totally empty! But it was open and we almost got an exclusive guided tour in the caves. Five people and one very nice guide. The cave was impressing and perfectly lighting.

On arrival the somewhat dated building does not do the caves justice. Do not be put off by this though. We waited about 20 minutes for a tour in English, and Alveira (spell?), a retired teacher, presented herself. She obviously loves the caves and this came across time and again…

A gem in a natural Parc
If you are in the Fatima area, visit the Parque da Serra dos Candeeiros. You will find cute villages that are surrounded by hills/mountains. The caves are worth the visit. The Serra de Santo Antonio, Alvados and Mira de aire caves are all different and all interesting. The…

Spectacular and amazing
Would highly recommend you visit, these types of natural wonders are amazing and for Portugal part of the areas history. also a great place to refresh under ground on a hot summer day, take lots of pictures you will want to remember this place.
