About
Footfalls Walking Holidays was founded in 1994 by Christopher and Teresa Stacey. We wanted to share our love and interest in the great outdoors with others so we started guiding individuals and groups in the Wicklow Mountains. Before long we were getting requests from our customers to see more of Ireland than just Wicklow and also do self-guided tours. Today we have expanded to where we are offering guided and self-guided tours to almost every corner of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Lake District. Despite out growth almost all of our tours are guided by us, Christopher and Teresa, to guarantee that personal touch.

My husband and I did The Wild Atlantic Way Southwest (easy). It was a great way to spend a week & to see the Irish countryside. Christopher, our guide, picked us up at the airport & immediately got the group of 14 introduced & settled for the drive to the first location. It's clear that Footfalls plans carefully to be sure the accommodations, meals, and hiking locations work out - nothing went wrong. Christopher is kind, funny, patient, & a good hiking coac - he's an excellent ambassador for Ireland. Don't take long to decide because the tours fill up fast. I’m glad I didn’t ignore the essentials list for hiking because I was prepared for rainy, windy, and sunny days. PS: the rainy days were as fun as the sunny days. I've never used hiking poles before and was thankful that one of the more experienced hikers let me use theirs. I was amazed at how much they helped me with hills, rocky paths, balance, and endurance. Remember, this is a hiking tour, not a walking tour. One of the nice things about Footfalls is that they pick you up at the airport and drop you back at the end of the week. Highly recommend.

For the most part, the self-guided tour was good. Our accommodations were quite nice but we only used them for Ireland. Even though submitting our reservation in January, their partners in Wales were already completely booked for June. I was able to put together our own walking tour in Wales. So, if they tell you to book by mid-January, do it even earlier.
The maps were good and our walks were supposed to be easy but they were longer than described and the path around the lakes in Glendalough were NOT EASY. Someone coming down from the hill above the lakes said that the corkscrew road we could see from below was very rocky and the steps were not normal sized. They required big steps and it was far longer than we were told.
Directions around Trooperstown were not as well marked or described. We walked past one path as it said to look for the memorial to a walker who had been killed on that road. Unfortunately, you could not see the memorial from the direction we came from. It was only after walking past it and pulling up the map on our phones did we realize that we had probably gone too far. Sure enough, coming back from the other direction, you could barely make out a cairn or memorial of some sort and only by crossing the road and looking at the memorial closely could we tell that was where the path was.
Footfalls also had trouble finding my friend's deposit. She had to find the email receipt and send back to them.
As we are 75 and in good shape, we still felt the routes, if described as easy, should have been easier. We were told no longer than 7 miles per day and one day was considerably longer once we had the maps from Footfalls. More accuracy is needed in their descriptions.
It would have been helpful to have local taxi numbers as well.
Both of our drivers from the train in Rathdrum to Laragh and then into Dublin were wonderful people. Very friendly and helpful. And our hostess in Laragh at the Brambles was just fantastic in giving us a coffee pot for our room as we were up earlier than breakfast was served. Our room there was spacious and comfortable. Just magnificent.
Just make sure you ask lots of questions.

Thank you very much for your lengthy review.
We are sorry that you found the trails to be too strenuous for you. I think if you go onto our website, you will see that the tour is marked as Easy to Modaret, not Easy. As for being 75, age has nothing to do with anything; it's all down to your own personal fitness level. I think it's great to be able to do such an activity at 75 and able to enjoy it.
We are delighted that you had a good stay in Wicklow and hope you will visit our little country again.
all our best wishes,
Christopher, Teresa and the Footfalls Team

Walking along the Wild Atlantic Way has been on my travel list for some time. For my first time, I wanted a tour company that was small, family run, and reasonably priced that would take care of the details. Footfalls and Christopher were exactly what I was looking for. Honestly, when I found the tour online, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to all the details, I was mostly concerned about walking in the southwest of the country. I was pleasantly surprised to find the lodging was excellent and the food in all the places was delicious. Christopher has a deep sense for providing excellent service and paying attention to the details in a way that makes it seamless for the guests. The walks were a wonderful blend of woodlands, meadows, rocky hillsides, and paved paths. Even in the rain and wind some days, walking was the best way to experience Ireland!

Wonderful family run tour. Christopher and his daughter Sarah made us all feel like extended family. The tours they led were absolutely breathtaking, even if it rained some of the days. They managed to work around the rain, and show us things most tourists don't even think of or know of. Everyone on this trip was kind, considerate, insightful, and helpful. It was absolutely beyond our expectations: from the hotels Christopher had us stay at, to the dinners they would plan for us all. It was extremely well done, and we would absolutely recommend Footfalls hiking group to our friends and family.

We are delighted that you enjoyed our tour of Connemara, Inis Mór and the Burren. Apologise for the rain, but it made for an interesting week.
Take care and hopefully, we will have the chance to walk, talk and laugh together on another of our tours.
Keep well and stay very safe,

Footfalls Walking Holidays offers the very best travel experiences! I have now taken 3 different guided tours with Footfalls over the past 8 years - Donegal & Antrim; Connemara, the Burren & the Aran Islands; Cork & Kerry. Each trip has offered unique sights - there are no words to capture how incredible it is to experience the gorgeous landscapes of Ireland on foot! The accommodations and restaurant selections are always lovely, and often there is live music on offer in the evenings. Christopher guided each of the tours himself, and his warmth, humour and welcome is a big part of why I keep returning, and taking my friends and family along with me. Teresa is also always so helpful and quick to reply to any inquires during the booking process. On my trips, I met several other people who have taken countless trips with Footfalls, and it’s not surprising. The experience they provide can’t be topped, and once you’re a part of the Footfalls family, you feel that you’ll always be a part of that family.

"I was a member of Footfalls hike to Ben Nevis. there's only one person who could have gotten us up to that summit and down safely in those conditions without any shadow of doubt. I never witnessed such leadership allied to navigation skills to lead a group ranging from 55-75 fit yrs safely. at no stage, and there were many, did we waver in his judgement about either our cability or challenging weather conditions near summit, walking on 6-8 ft snow at points and VP. Christy Stacy has my undying respect for many of his entrepreneurial and walking skills plus partner Teresa for hidden understated but no less valuable support. highly recommended walking company in my opinion."

Both Teresa and I enjoyed being in your company very much.
Until we have the pleasure to walk together again, stay safe and keep well.
Best Regards, Christopher & Teresa

In May 2021, I read an article about St Patrick's Pilgrim's Walk in Travel and Leisure Magazine. The author recommended Footfalls. The article peaked my interest so I called Phiip Stacey. He worked with me to personalize my walking program to fit my ability and interests. He insured I was introduced to very special places in Northern Ireland along my route, recommended detours and offered dining suggestions. He arranged amazing guest house stays, on time transfers, and provided guidance on all aspects of my holiday. I have traveled extensively and am a very experienced traveler, I speak from experience when I say Philip's attention to detail and care for me during my three week solo adventure was outstanding. He checked in with me daily, and was always available to answer questions or provide advice. I had the best holiday! Thank you Philip.

We were treated to an amazing adventure on the Wicklow Way with Philip Stacey and his Footfalls Walking Holidays company. Our group of 10 were both eager and apprehensive to travel. Eager because we have missed experiences like the one offered here and apprehensive because of the challenges of travel during the pandemic. Philip was superb from the “opening bell” to the conclusion of our trip.
He put together an incredible itinerary on short notice and was remarkably organized and accommodating to any request that we made.
Would look no further when considering a trip in Ireland or Northern Ireland than Footfalls….they were great.

We did the Sunrise new years day walking tour with Footfalls. We really enjoyed the experience. The father and daughter of this family run business were our tour guides. They were very knowledgeable about the area and very friendly. After the hike they recommended other local hikes in the area for us to do as we were staying in the area a few days. I would definately recommend Footfalls hiking tours and ill definately be booking again. Thank you Christopher and Sarah for a very enjoyable trip!

We just returned from an excellent week of hiking in Northern Ireland, guided by Philip Stacey, son of Christopher and Teresa, owners of Footfalls. Philip was a patient, knowledgeable and entertaining guide, who planned an itinerary perfectly balanced with some challenging hikes, interspersed with visits to sites such as the Giant's Causeway, Belfast, Londonderry, and the Marble Arches Caves. We waited for two years due to Covid for this trip to happen, but it was definitely worth the wait. We highly recommend this company for an active adventure.

How strenuous are the hikes on the Dingle Way self-guided tour? I'd consider myself a semi-experienced hiker--no multi-day trekking or mountaineering, but I've done day hikes 12 miles long in mountainous terrain. However, I've never done this type of hiking on three or more consecutive days.
What's the weather like around the end of May? I'm seeing averages in the 50s/60s with rain. Does this sound accurate?

Hi, you would need to have a moderate level of fitness for this trail. By that I mean you would have to be comfortable at least 4 to 5 hours per day. We could shorted down the days for you if you wish, if so please send us an email and we will do up an itinerary for you.
Normally good with temperatures around 55 to 60c

We want to take a walking trip in Ireland this September. We'd like to rent a cottage for a week or so -a home base with lots of walks in the vicinity, a charming village nearby and rural beauty all around. If one could get there on public transportation that would be ideal. Any ideas? Thanks so much, Sue
