Went to Visit Clonony Castle today.
It is personally the most Beautiful Castle we have visited. The Castle is filled with Character, Vibrancy, Architecturally wonderful and steeped with Historical Significance.

We had the most wonderful experience chatting with the Beautiful owner Rebecca, who was a warm and welcoming Host who filled us in about the castles history, she was hilariously funny and witty and a lovely person.
We will definitely be back,
Much love

Stop by today and I was very impressed. The owner is very welcoming and she knows a lot about the history of the area. I still just can’t wrap my head around the fact that she lives inside this mediaeval castle. One of the coolest things I’ve visited in Ireland.

Group visit by CRRG Dublin (motorcycle touring group)

Best to ring and arrange your visit. Our group arrived on a Saturday as arranged and were warmly greeted by Rebecca, the owner. She gave us an interesting tour of the castle and its history. It would have been great to climb to the top floor but, understandably, as the top 2 floors are her private living quarters, we only got to see 2 of the floors. Well worth the visit (which is free, but she accepts donations towards the upkeep of the castle).

Very Interesting

I had cousins visiting from the US and called here to check it out. Would totally recommend. The owner is a very interesting lady in her own right but to see what she has actually done herself in repairing the castle is incredible. She showed us two floors of the castle and the garden and her glamping sites. Definitely worth a call. Great history about this castle. Would totally recommend.

A Unique Experience, and a Must-See

Rebecca Armstrong is, she tells us, restoring her *fourth* castle, says it's the only Tudor castle in all of Ireland. Rebecca, now widored, has her hands full, but if the project is moving slowly, the results so far are extraordinary.

Be sure and get the full story of Henry VIII of England, Anne Bloeyn, and this castle. You will be surprised.

Keep in mind, this is her home. So part of the castle is off limits. Her work has involved replacing grout and masonry bricks in an arched ceiling 15' in the air on scaffolding ... you know, like Michelangelo. She had a lot of stories to tell, and devoted the better part of an hour to our visit. That's why we made a substantial gift to her Building fund.

Rebecca is setting up s "Glamping" site inside the main gate, and that should be available before long. My wife and I sincerely enjoyed our visit and the gracious welcom e and interesting stories that accompanied it.

With Clonony Castle, Leap Castle and Birr Castle, you can spend a fascinating and very unusual day in an unheralded part of Ireland. Go for it ... you won't regret it.

A hidden gem & an inspiring owner!

I brought a group of 4 from Florida here to give them a feeling for an authentic Irish castle and it could not have been more fun! The owner Rebecca has restored this castle herself and she is an inspiration. It's a small castle and you only get to see 2 floors, but for us, it was really Rebecca who made the visit. Very warm and friendly and a former ballerina, you can tell she is made of strong stuff as she regaled us with tales of the castle including it's links to Henry VIII & the Boleyn family.

A very worthwhile stop if you are in the area (we were heading to Clonmacnoise) but be sure to book ahead as she is not always there, particularly out of season. There is no set charge to visit the castle, but Rebecca takes donations to help towards the restoration.

Delightful visit
Jun 2017
After being disappointed by not getting in to see Leap Castle we continued our search for haunted castles and stopped by Clonony Castle and was greated so friendily by the owner. She was so sweet. Told us of the history of the castle, her sightings of the spirits and even let us take a selfie ;-) Advise would be to jump on her Facebook page and call before to be sure she can accommodate your visit. We got lucky just showing up.
