"A definite must see!!" Lots of fun for everyone!
Jul 2019
My husband and I were able to see this wonderful demonstration of sheep herding while travelling with our tour group with Gate 1 Travel as we travelled throughout Ireland.

Today, as part of our "Ring of Kerry" day long adventure, we stopped to see Brendan Ferris and his two trained dogs with a herding demonstration.
This was very exciting to see Brendan command his dogs and their reactions.

Great Experience
Sep 2019
We loved the sheep dog show. There is a little uphill walk to get to the mini stadium. It rained a bit during the show, but the stadium had an overhang so we wouldn't get wet. Brendan was very passionate and knowledgeable and both the dogs were adorable! We learned a little bit about each breed of sheep and were able to ask questions. Look for the Jacob Sheep with double horns! A must see stop on the Ring of Kerry. Tip: bring binoculars to see a little better and an umbrella or rain coat if you want to stand right next to the fence.

A GREAT place to stop.

We've been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Brendan is a very good caretaker of his dogs and sheep and you learn so much from him. Well worth the price of admission.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST
May 2019
I was there this past May, did the Ring of Kerry bus tour and we stopped at Brendan Ferris Sheepdog Demonstration. I was really looking forward to see dogs in action and this was the BEST STOP EVER!!! What a show this man puts on with these amazing dogs. He shares his training of the dogs, different calls and the dogs were the star.

I could have stayed there all day watching those amazing dogs, the sheep and enjoying Brendan's wonderful sense of humor. It is an ABSOLUTE MUST.

Must Go
Oct 2019
This was such a great experience during my Ring of Kerry Bus Tour. Brendan gave an amazing demonstration of sheep herding - showed off 2 differently trained dogs and we watched the sheep go up and down the mountains. Afterwards he showed us about 10 different types of Sheep that live in Ireland. It was educational, entertaining, and really cute. I loved this experience so much.

Great Learning Experience. 'Babe' Worthy!

We were part of a tour group that visited this center.
Kell’s Sheep Centre was not listed in the paperwork so I count it as a plus. We were there to see a sheep dog demonstration conducted by Brendan Ferris. He trains Border Collies in the art of sheep herding and his amazing skills are on show here with his dogs responding to his every command. He had two of his dogs out for us to watch demonstrations of sheep dogs rounding up sheep. Each dog has a unique set of whistle commands which they respond to immediately. Great trainer!

Ferris also tells and shows you all about the different type of sheep, which ones are for food, which ones have good wool and so on. It was a great unexpected stop and one we will remember.

Not to be missed!

There are stairs here, but it is worth the climb. The price is reasonable, and the place is very popular. We viewed examples of several different types of sheep while Brendan was working his dogs in the adjacent field for another group. When he finished, and while the other group filed out, Brendan came to describe each type of sheep on display, their characteristics and their uses. It turns out some sheep are better for their meat than their wool, and vice versa.
When our group went to the observation area, Brendan and his dogs, Skip and Chip, put on a working demonstration that was amazing. Brendan clearly loves his dogs, and the dogs are happiest when working and pleasing Brendan. They were even eager for more work when out of breath and thirsty; often ignoring the water bowl because they wanted more work. The only less than eager participants were the sheep. However, the dogs never hurt the sheep, and the sheep seem to move because sheep don't like canids that they are predisposed to fear from ancient times. They never seemed to react to the dogs out of panic, but merely a preference to be elsewhere,
This demonstration was actually Brendan simply training and exercising his dogs and letting us watch. Maybe I'll try charging people to watch me walk my dog!
