About
Narin & Portnoo is a Par 73 Championship Links Course, in south west Donegal. One of the most natural links courses in Ireland with stunning views of the Gweebara Bay and a unrivalled hole variety. Considered by Philip Reid as one of the "great eight" courses of Ireland it is a course that every golfer should play at least once.Visitors are welcome to play the course and avail of the bar/resturant facilities in the newly renovated clubhouse which all combine to create a truely memorable day. Gil Hanse has completed redesign at the course with the first phase of construction was finished in December 2018. We will be in play by 2019.

Fantastic improvements

The improvements they have made to this hidden gem make it a must-play for those who love links golf. The new clubhouse is very comfortable, and the clubhouse staff are as hospitable as any course I've played. I love this course

Golfing Heaven

Just had 2 days golfing at the wonderful narin and portnoo links. Even with the wind, rain and hail stones it's a thoroughly enjoyable course to play with some of the most beautiful views to rival any golf course in Ireland or further afield.

After your golfing is done a trip to the clubhouse is a must. On our first day we had arranged for breakfast and then had dinner after our second day the food was on both occasions first class with no complaints from our party of 15. The restaurant staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough for our party. Special thanks to Joanne the bar manager for looking after us.

Overpriced for current course
Sep 2021
Would agree it a great layout for all levels of golfers. How ever the fairways and greens need 2 or 3 years to to fill in if what I played is all new. I played Dingle, Lahinch, Doonbeg, and Enniscrone in the last month and N&P course conditions is not to the standard of these other clubs. Visitors rate of 145 should be half that based on current conditions. I don't mind paying for a quality course and N&P does not meet that condition when I played it. If your course is always like this then that's too bad for your visitors.

Flat-out stunning

The Gil Hanse redesign at Narin & Portnoo Links is a masterpiece. The dramatic dunes and shots along the beach were all so memorable. Particularly lovely were the 9th hole, with its tee shot set against the rocks and coast, through a very undulating fairway and up to a green overlooking a peninsula, and then the stretch of holes #14 through #16, which now have an argument as the best 3-hole stretch in Ireland. Hole #15 is a beautiful brute, with the beach running along the right side. As more people discover the refurbished links, I see it in an echelon right up there with Lahinch and Royal County Down.

What a fantastic and challenging course! The new course changes are great and I really did enjoy the par 5 finish. Also they do a great pint a Guinness in the club house, would highly recommend!

Nice but needs a few additions.

I played in an open singles in mid August of this year - 2020. We had super food both before and after our round and compliments to the staff and chef!

The course was our main interest however and overall I was expecting better!

We paid 52 euro for the pleasure of this singles which we felt was a bit too steep.
The GPS did not work and there was about 4 holes which had short stake markers giving the yardage to the greens. There was no fairway markers and coupled with no GPS made it difficult for us 'first timers' to judge the distances. A very helpful local member was of huge help as he indicated the lines we should take from some of the 'blind' tee shots.

The greens were really unusual and presented exceptional difficulty and if one likes quirky greens, then this course is a must play! Some of the pin positions were very challenging and really demanded serious concentration and a very sure stroke! The difficulty with the course was definitely on the greens as a whole.
The last hole stands our for its tough length and its excellent green and was a serious test on the day.
Having played Murvagh, Sandy Hills, Old Tom Morris and both courses in Ballyliffin - on a few occasions - its hard to rate Nairn and Portnoo against them.

Its an interesting course and has some quirky holes but we thought it was a little too expensive for an open singles and we would ask that distance markers and GPS issues are addressed.
Its not too far from Letterkenny and that is a plus as it is not too remote.
Full marks for the restaurant and its staff and the condition of the course was excellent also.

Refund
May 2020
Had to cancel our trip because of the current travel restrictions, buy I can't speak highly enough about Yuka Quinn in Sales/Marketing and the attention he paid to communicating the status of a problematic refund. Thanks Yuka.

Had a beautiful shiitake mushroom pasta.Hadnt tried shiitake mushrooms before but that was no problem. The chef cooked me a sample to taste .The pasta when it arrived was fabulous with a gorgeous sauce. If this chef did cooking classes I would be first in line. The serving staff were so friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was so welcoming. It was a most enjoyable experience

Hidden gem

Great links course in a very natural setting. It takes a bit of time to get to but is worth the effort. A special mention to the lady in the pro shop who is a fantastic ambassador for the club. Friendly helpful and attentive. I will be back.
