Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bailieborough Foresr Park is an absolute gem. The castle was demolished in the 1970s but the grounds are managed by Coillte and they've done a wonderful job.
The trails run around the beautiful Castle Lake.
On one side there is a side trail up to a ringfort. On the other there's a similar side trail up to the site of the former castle.
There's also a Prace Trail through mature woodlands on Rebel Hill where so many perished in an ambush in the 1798 United Irishmens Rebellion. There a plaque commenorating those deaths on the main trail where it branches off for the Peace Trail.
There's also a beautiful little walled cemetery for Marist Fathers who ministered here when the castle was under their direction.
There's a small car park, free of charge with a nice coffee truck. There are many little pontoons snd piers for canoeing that make for lovely viewing points for pedestrians.
The trails are all easy and mainly flat. The ring fort trail is steep, as is a small part of the trail to the castle site, but nothing overly taxing
Beatiful mixture of wildflowers, mature native trees and evergreens. A stunning, tranquil, beautiful place.

Beautiful walk in early May 2022. Abundance of bluebells and other wildflowers and a pond full of tadpoles.

Castle Lake and Forest has been vastly improved in the last 18 months. Flooding in no longer an issue on the paths. There are new trails cut through the forest, accessable from the lakeside path and a new viewpoint area is being completed (as of 06/19). New signage in place to guide walkers. This is a hidden gem near the quaint little town of Bailieborough.

I've walked around this forest since I was a child & still love it. It's beautiful in Winter, Summer, Spring & Autumn. There are benches throughout the walk for picnics. Lovely family or solo walk.

We were staying at Cabra Castle but before we could check in at 3, we were looking for places to spend some time beforehand. This walk looked to be very local and simple so we decided to stop by to pass an hour or two. We're so very happy we did! The lake was so peaceful looking with the sun shining and the crisp winter air nipping at your skin. Even it winter it was decently trafficked so it must be a local favorite. It was a great way to get outside after a long flight and get some fresh, Irish air to start our vacation!

Looking for something to do with the kids? This is well worth a day trip! It's a good walk (3km) through forest, up the odd hill, looping around the Castle Lake - suitable for buggies. For the more adventurous parents/kids you should venture away from the lake walk to visit the 'Brothers' graves & try to find the ruins of the Bailieborough Castle - well sign posted (this part is not really suitable for buggies). Bring a picnic!
