Located in front of Stovepipe Wells Village this historical marker boasts 2 old wagon wheels, informational plaque and an old fire truck. Worth a 5-minute stop while getting gas across the road.

Burned Wagons Point is a California Registered Landmark and historic point of interest in the Stovepipe Wells Village that you will find just off the highway in the carpark across from the General Store. The historical marker is located just in front of an old fire engine. What you will find here is a marker revealing the location where a group of 49ers who decided to seek a shortcut through Death Valley were forced to stop their journey. At this spot they burned their wagons, slaughtered and dried some of their oxen before continuing westward on foot. Unfortunately, the plaque doesn't provide details relating to the fate of those who burned their wagons here before pressing onward with their journey. However, we can imagine the difficulties and uncertainties they would have faced crossing these inhospitable lands in what is now Death Valley National Park.
