Overview
More
Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometre of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

We went there because of my 4yr old son. I thought he'd enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful setting and we all had a great time. A bit expensive by South African standards especially for larger families but a really good day out.

Truly amazing place with the kind of species around. The birds take the park as their natural home and are flying around so you need to be patient and be on the look. Go slow on the boardwalk as the birds are all in the...More

Birds of Eden is a fun place to visit. Lots of colorful birds, living under a huge tent so they are virtually free. Big difference compared to a zoo. When you visit there, you should also visit Monkeyland. There are combined tickets with reduced prices.

We first visited Birds of Eden five years ago and as wee were recently back in SA thought our new six month old baby might enjoy seeing some of the beautifully coloured birds that fly freely in the enclosure. He wasn’t too sure at first...More

We had an amazing two hours at Birds of Eden. We’re not bird lovers but came away having seen so many different species in natural surroundings. We wish all involved with this important project very well in their endeavours.

Quite a drive beyond Plettenburg - but once there do the Monkeyland as well. Initially on entry there appear to be very few birds but as the trip progresses the birds increase in numbers quite dramatically - a very enjoyable visit

Although expensive for locals, it is a great experience. We spent hours enjoying Birds of Eden. It is best to take a stroll so that you don't miss anything. I love the animated Knysna Loerie with it's cheeky attitude. Well worth the visit.

This huge netted little piece of Africa is a brilliant example of a bird sanctuary. Mostly donated as unwanted captive species, they wander and breed freely for you to watch and photo. Combine this with Monkeyworld next door then a superb lunch at Newstead winery...More

Though not a birder I loved this place. Superbly laid out and with a beautifully produced guide book to help us identify the amazing number of different species of birds. I really could not recommend this place more highly - it’s brilliant! Thank you.
