Unexpected; beautiful mosaics

I had no idea how important this area was historically, but discovered Hannibal got married here. The visitor centre is small but very well done. As an archaeological site, it is still a work in progress (I will have to come back in ten years). They did uncover some exceptionally well-preserved mosaics, which are worth the visit

A trip to the past

In the middle of nothing, heat and olive trees, you'll arrive to the Castulo Archeological site. This was an oretanian-roman city where Hanibal got married with Himilce, main city of Sierra Morena and its mines. You'll find the Amores mosaic, the best and bigger mosaic found

We arrive by car to Castulo and were totally excited to see this place we heard so much about. We knew that maybe the mosaic was closed to the public but we heard there were other things to see. We arrive and there are two men sitting in the museum and we go ask them questions. Wow, could they give us less information?! We were there during business hours and excited to see this place, we were with Spaniards from the area, and they were like just go over there on that hill that's the only thing that is open to the public. So we climbed the hill saw the view of olive groves and that was that.
