About
The construction of the vassal fortress on the Tallinn-Narva Hwy was started by Jakob von Taube in 1533. The Purtse Fortress on the large trade and military road was seriously damaged in the Great Northern War and by the 1950s only ruins remained. In the 1980s, the renovation of the fortress was started, and by 1990, it had been restored. Nearby, you will find a memorial and Mourning Park for the Victims of Evil, which is a map of Estonian pain, with the number of deportees noted for each county. Today, you can visit the restored fortress and excursions take place in the summer.

The smallest castle I have ever seen.
Jun 2020
The smallest castle I have ever seen. Close to excellent hotel and/or restaurant Tulivee Villa. Across the street you can find great local beer brewery. Sometimes you have to knock or call. Many chose of "Miner's" beer.

Highly recomended

Cozy castle, superb service and fairy medivial food at cafteria. Everything is fresh and made from pure local products... peppermint tea, sour soup , duck with lensis and kama icecream with warm rasberry sauce are my favorites- worth to try and dream on afterwards. Monestery beers and wines are very good- something that fits with offered food .Castle tour is intresting touch for this visit. To enter castle- push the door bell...

Very nice, classic looking castle. Unfortunately it had already closed but it looks great and is situated in beautiful surroundings.

Keep the word
Jul 2015 • Family
Listen, if you're writing that you are open, then keep the word. It is nice to walk around the castle and read the label that you are open. In reality, the door is closed, and the doorbell does not make any changes. If you business is going so well that you do not want more money, then donate it to the charity.

Delightful little castle
Apr 2015 • Couples
Although it was restored and built from ruins in late 1980s it feels very authentic. Probably because it is all handmade and built from local material. A definite must see for medieval history lovers. Ticket price is very cheap. I would recommend a guided tour because there are no information plaques and the place has very interesting history. There is also a cafe which serves nice food.

Fascinating place

Ancient interiors, giving the impression of a medieval rich man home layout. Very acceptable entry price - only 1 € from person, Available small cafe too in groundfloor.
