Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the few areas in the region that actually has a decent hill, as such local cyclists are attracted in their droves. The views are wonderful and there are two pleasant signposted walking routes around the countryside. The shop sells the excellent cheese from the Abbaye and their Trappist ambrée beer. The restaurant/cafe closest to the abbaye itself is a touch on the expensive side, however offers fantastic views from their very large windows. They also stock a great range of beers on tap and in bottles.
I should imagine this is heaving in the summer months, though on a lovely February day it was very relaxing.

We visited, you will guess on a Sunday, travelling from Dunkirk to Ypres/Ieper. Since my wife's grandfather was billeted at the Abbey after the 1st Battle of Ypres until the first gas attack, when they replaced the French in the trenches.
It was extremely busy and it was difficult to secure a parking spot off the road. The hill, Mont des Cats, is the first higher ground you encounter since leaving the channel ports and attracts the locals in large numbers to visit a pleasant, but expensive shop. The views are good to the north, which were obscured by the very heavy shores falling, so we did not explore as much as we hoped. But we found very little to visit apart from the shop.

The abbey of Mont des Cats is famous for its cheese, and i was pleased to find it open, and feature quite liberal opening times. The shop also sells the beer associated with the abbey, which is brewed elsewhere (i.e., in Chimay, Belgium, another trappist cloister). In any case, worth the trip uphill!

Coming on Saturday, good view and nice area for picnic; in the end only visiting the cheese store in the abby's complex and there is a cafe near by.. you can see from the abby (1 minutes walk) - bought a cheese only..

The building dates back to the 11th century. It is a place of peace in a building that has miraculously survived a great deal of war. Less impressive than magnificent cathedrals, but no less interesting.

Hi, I want to know wich is the time to visitation on Saturdays?
Written 18 August 2017
Good evening, the Abbey is not visited, it is still occupied for now, by some thirty monks, and for the Cistercian monks, it is silence and prayer. I think you will understand that it is not a museum or a historical monument, because you can, make a retreat, and live with the monks in exchange for participation.JBS
