Hi guys,
After I drove +/- 60 km on a tricky dirt road (a lot of potholes (slaggate)). I reached Hvitserur.
It is worth the drive. (Idrove a sedan)
You can climb down and watch the fur-seals.
regards.

The road to this location is a bit rough. It's all dirt, but I thought it was well worth it! The trek down and be a bit scary, but with some good shoes you'll be fine. We spent about an hour here to walk around the beaches after the picture.

The road to the ocean was garbage. So many potholes. It took 35 minutes of driving on an awful road to get there. 5 minute walk to the viewing platform. The weather was cold and snowy so we didnt go down to the beach. So about 5 minutes of looking at the formation in the water, then the awful drive back out. We did not feel like this was worth it.

Surprisingly very popular destination. On recent visit to Iceland, most of the scenic outdoors was empty and sparsely populated. Not this sight. Lots of cars filling up the parking lot and lots of people visiting the rock in the water. What is most surprising is this is one of the tougher sights to visit with a long drive on a dirt road required to get to this rock. Off of "ring road" highway 1, took highway 716 to highway 711. A dirt road with a lot of traffic. On the way back took highway 711 to highway 717 which circles around the other side of the lake. This route was VERY difficult with lots of peaks and lots of loose gravel with no guardrails. On the positive side, this route has no traffic. Most people should stick with highway 716, which is mostly flat and better maintained. If you have a sense of adventure, take highway 717, either route gets you to 711 which gets you to this sight. Signs are clearly marking the route. The sight itself is nice, a rock that looks like a troll just off the coastline. You can take the long route on foot around a path that takes you to the rock. This path takes about 30 minutes from the parking lot. You can also take a more dangerous walk down the rocks to the coast and that takes about five minutes. Skip this way if you aren't young and well-balanced and efficient at climbing rocks. The rock formation is great, not much to do other than admire and take a few pictures. It is like nothing you'll ever see....much larger in person than you would expect from the photos. Visiting this sight is another excuse to see the beautiful Icelandic fjord which the rock is located in. Overall, this takes 2-3 hours time to detour off the ring road, so plan your time accordingly.

A wonderful place to stop and take in the scenery. The roads are gravel roads but doable on a 2wd. The rock formation is very picturesque.

It’s tiny and it’s 1.5 hours detour to go there. There are so many special places in Iceland. Unless you are really into the special shape of the rock it’s not worth the trip

This is definitely the worst "attraction" we visited in Iceland. It is overrated, simply a small piece of rock in the sea. Additionally, you have to take a dirt road to reach the place which takes you too much time that you can definitely spend better.

If the weather is fine it is a nice easy stroll to walk and admire the view on the way. The platform the view ‘Hvitserkur’ was enough for us. But the more adventourus risktakers can go down to the beach to have a better look. Due to much fewer tourist during covid. I liked taking it easy and just listening the peace and quite and some birds chirping

When you have some time to spare this is an interesting stop. You can walk down to the beach to see the rock formations up close or have a bird's eye view from closer to the parking lot. When it's raining it will be muddy.

After a long and trying day of driving through inclement weather we decided to go for one last stop to see Hvitserkur otherwise referred to as the Black Rock. I was rolling my eyes in frustration when I realized how long I had to drive on a dirt road to get there. However, surprisingly the drive was not as bad as I thought. We got there much faster than I expected. Once we arrived I didn't see what all the fuss was about. Perhaps I've been spoiled with all the incredible natural sights seen thus far in week in Iceland and this site paled in comparison. Or perhaps it was incredibly cold when we arrived with a cutting wind and we found it painful to view the site for longer than a few minutes. In any event, we are glad we crossed this site off our list but wish we had nicer weather to view the rock. Perhaps in the future we'll visit again.
