We spent an hour here with this boutique sized vanilla garden. Our kids love vanilla so it was great to learn about its cultivation from someone who really grows it. Unfortunately there was none available to buy but that didn’t take much away from the interesting time we spent there. We all know what sticks of vanilla smell and taste like, but had never seen them growing from their orchid plants.

Visited 2 years ago and wanted to stop by last January to buy some vanilla. We prefer to support individual growers Instead of big companies, so held off buying vanilla these last months be ause we knew we would visit Fety when e were in Guadeloupe. Were unpleasantly surprised when we were informed he only sold vanilla to those who took the tour. We got to buy one packet of 4 gousses (15 euro), seemingly as a favor. Next time we’ll just go back to the Sunday market in Lille and buy vanilla from a lovely lady who’s son lives abroad and imports it directly from his plantation. Will make me feel better about helping small businesses.

We were able to find information on open hours, but only upon getting there at 2:30 were we able to find out that you have to get there at quarter past the hour in order to be admitted - only guided tours are available and they leave at a quarter past the hour, and there is no one to greet you or explain this once you get there -and in fact this information is only painted on the wall a short ways outside of the vanillerie. It looked clean and as though it would be an interesting presentation if you were able to time it correctly. There is nothing to do while waiting - you could maybe visit the sand paintings shop next door - with young children that wasn't an option for us.
