It's a steep walk up to the castle (you can drive but the roads are narrow), it was closed when we got there, so was the church, there's a nice cafe near the top and the views from the top are lovely, but can't really comment about the castle except to say check the opening times before going.

We popped into the village for a look around as we were spending the weekend nearby. The village looks impressive from afar, with the caste at the top, as you would expect, and the reservoir down below. There's not a great deal to see in the village and you need strong legs to walk up to the castle, but once... More

A beautiful location. Quite small as castles go, but lovely views, a peaceful location and a nice place to rest after the long trek up the hill.

The castle, with the parish church outside, dominates the hill on which the beautiful town of Iznajar is built. The restoration of the castle took an immense amount of time to accomplish, but it repays a visit. Not perhaps for the castle itself; apart from a few rooms, some battlements and a cistern, there is not a great deal to... More

Fascinating tour of the castle (and town) with Lucia from the local tourist office. The castle dates from the 10th century and has been sympathetically renovated. Highlights include a short but very interesting video (though the English subtitles need a lot of corrections!) and the climb down into the ancient water deposit. Awesome views over the town and Lake Iznajar... More

Beautiful location set in the real Andalusia. If you want to be off the beaten path, then this place is ideal. Loved it.

Have stayed in this area several times and always enjoyed the visit. The lake or reservoir is being developed as a tourist attraction but progress is very slow. The extensive sandy beach now has parasols, sun loungers and a few pedalos. Two additional lakeside restaurants have opened in the last couple of years making this an idyllic non-touristy area.

The castle is well worth a visit, it is only 2 euros (at time of writing) and the tour guide, Lucia, speaks fluent English. There is a short video during the tour which is subtitled. The tour includes the library and the small museum as well as the castle. There are amazing views. Be aware that the tour doesn't always... More
