A UNESCO world heritage site, and rightly so. This is one of the landmarks of the region and realla a must-see. And it is for free. Located just off two of the main motorways, it is worth to have a stop to see the Torhalle. And also the museum located right besides it is worth a visit.

The grounds and restored building were interesting, but the museum was closed. A gift shop nearby had some nice souvenirs, but don't go just for the Abbey. Most of the area is private and buildings are closed to the public.

My friend and I arrived at this UNESCO World Heritage site on a public holiday. It was also raining lightly, so there were not a lot of visitors. We enjoyed a good walk around town. There are constructions / renovation of the abbey and we didnt get to go to the "king's room".

Unfortunately, the monestary itself has been the victim to the tooth of time and only a few original buildings remain. However, in the last years, the whole complex has been restructured and is now a quite decent park. Moreover, the city of Lorsch has done some extraordinary work and rebuild a small village from the time just outside the city,... More

Coming from Northern Italy on our way home in The Netherlands we made a stop in the Mannheim area. We had booked a hotel in Lorsch and received the booking confirmation and information if we would arrive late almost immediately in a ver correct manner. We arrived in the late afternoon after a tedious trip on the A8 motorway. We... More

This site basically consists of the gates constructed in the 8th century by Carolingians. Surprisingly, there are few sites relating to this epoque (compared with Roman, for example). The gate is quite interesting and ornate architecturally and the whole place is pleasant to stroll around.
