We signed up to take the Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise with Real Journeys. What a great experience! I can't say enough about the quality of the Real Journey staff. Everyone is extremely helpful and knowledgeable, from the staff at the local offices to the transport bus drivers. Special mention to the exceptional crew we had on our overnight cruise. They... A trip to Doubtful Sound has been on our bucket list for some time. We booked a Real Journeys overnight cruise and were not disappointed. We departed by bus from Queenstown though you can join the trip at various points along the way including Te Anau and Lake Manapouri. The busses, and water transport on Lake Manapouri, were very clean... More

The boat takes you first across Lake Manapouri, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. Then a bus ride with a funny and informative driver through ancient forest, stopping at view points, in particular a stunning view down to Doubtful Sound. Then a three hour trip on the Sound, up one side to the choppy Tasman Sea where we were followed... More

I found this to be a really interesting experience. It was actually three experiences in one, a 40 minute cruise across Lake Manapouri, then a 50 minute bus trip over New Zealand's most expensive road, and then a 3 hour cruise to the mouth of the Sound. The fact that it was raining and foggy for most of the trip... More

A super way to spend a relaxing day admiring the glorious scenery of Fiordland. Staff were all very friendly. Take insect repellant with you as you are a standing target for sand flies whilst waiting to board the boats.

We went with Real Journeys on their Doubtful Sound overnight cruise on the Fjordland Navigator, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From leaving Manapouri at noon, crossing Lake Manapouri, then by coach over Wilmot Pass to Doubtful, then the cruise itself... all absolutely brilliant! The Navigator is a superb boat (ship?), very comfortable and stylish, with a fantastic crew... More

Real Journeys puts together a great tour. The boats have more than enough seating in the warm cabins and plenty of space on the outside decks. You can stay inside the cabins the entire time and still have a great view of the fiords. However, you will want to step outside for at least part of the cruise. Don't worry,... More

Amazing overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound! Stunning scenery, tumbling waterfalls, seals on the rocks, pod of dolphins passing nearby and a fly past from mollymawk albatrosses! The crew on the Fiordland Navigator were terrific – fun, knowledgeable, efficiently producing great meals and snacks and always willing to stop and help or answer questions.
