I have travelled across Lake Manapouri a couple of times and always enjoy the scenery and serenity. The autumn scenery was special with the snowcap ranges of the southern fiodland.

It was a damp and misty day, made the lake look rather magical. The boat ride was excellent, I was disappointed that it's not possible to look over the power station, something I had wanted to do for many years. Stepping off the boat was...More

Manapouri Lake is lovely to look at on the drive from Te Anau to Manapouri - and even better from one of the several boats that cross it from the RealJourneys boat dock in Manapouri. It's a gateway to Doubtful Sound as well. Don't miss...More

Beautiful and serene, short drive from Te Anau. Not many restaurants though. If you are looking for convenience, is best to stay at Te Anau and make a half day trip - take a walk along the lake and soak in the beauty

IF you don't have time or ability to go to Doubtful Sound, the ferry ride across Lake Manapouri is the next best thing. The scenery comes very close to that of the Fiords, and our pilot, Cat, gave us so much interesting commentary along the...More

A cruise across Lake Manapouri is often part of a trip to Doubtful Sound, as it was for us. However, the scenery and vistas from the boat are spectacular in their own right and are by no means overshadowed by those of their arguably more...More

Took 45 minute boat trip across the lake - good commentary about the natural environment and battles to preserve it during building of the power station. Unfortunately, power station currently closed to visitors.
