These extensive roman remains include an amphitheatre and cemetery. Located just outside Split they are well worth visiting and are not beset by crowds of people.

Our little group of Prinsendam cruisers is on a shore excursion with Ante Batarelo to learn about the Amphitheatre of Salona. Ante says it was built at the end of the 2nd Century and the Venetians had the main structure dismantled during their 17th century...More

Whereas Split Old town is built in and around the very finely preserved palace of emperor Diocletian but has not much more archaeological stuff, Solin or Salona has much broader archaeological area. Just continue walking long enough amid the ruins and you will find the...More

This site is about 20 mins from Split. Go early as it gets very hot and there's a bit of a walk involved. The ruins are intact enough to fire the imagination and you can clamber about all over the place so it's good fun....More

We stopped here after Sibenik on our way to Split. Very close by. Interesting that this ruin is literally in someone's backyard. Definitely not a place for tourist groups. The family who lives there is nice enough to offer their bathroom for visitors to use....More

We visited Solin from Split-its such a short journey-about 30mins by car-and very well worth the trip. The whole site is amazing, and on such a huge scale, but we saved the amphitheatre for last. Compared to similar sites in other locations, you almost have...More

Didn't expect to see all this Roman history while staying in the area. We had an excellent guide that really knew his stuff.

Reserve yourselves private local guide to gain full experience. Children as well enjoyed it as we adapted maybe plain information to lovely fairy tales thanks to local guide.

We had Salona to ourselves - a short bus ride from Split. Weather wonderful and we all felt so peaceful there and breathed in the antiquity. Remarkable ruins dating back to Roman times and the vegetation within was gorgeous. Not to be missed

If only the rocks could speak, but they don't - so to best appreciate this site, as in most other sites around Split (and probably Croatia), best come armed with foreknowledge or with a guide - the tourism board (if it exists) does not do...More

We visited Solin from Split (Marjan) by bikes. The drive is quite short, although there will be hills. For Split public transport, the routes and timetables, go to: w w w . promet - split . hr, and then click on "Linije... More
