The rock in this area is easy to work so the villagers began in the 1500’s and 1600’s to carve out cellars for the storage of food, wine, and other goods. In the mid to late 1800’s, wine making, especially sparkling wine became a major industry and the cellars were expanded. Canelli is considered “The Spumante Capital” of Italy, and... More

First of all, we thought that we were coming to taste Asti Spumante, but once here, found that this Cantina makes hardly any sparkling white wine now. Also the cellars were very disappointing, not that large and we found it difficult to understand how they had achieved UNESCO world heritage status. And maybe they had run out of food for... More

Amazing experience. The owner guided us through the 19th century cellars and gave us clear and exhaustive explaination abt the production and aging of their wines. Pomorosso is without any doubt the best Barolo I ever had! Wine tasting with salami and cheese was great. Will return!

We had a very nice tour and talk about the coppo winery. very knowledgeable guide and a nice variety of piemontese wines to taste. Each comes with its own (hi)story, nicely narrated by a young cantina employee! Surely recommendable

We arrived late on Saturday, too late for the cellar tour but one of the family graciously let us join a tasting which we enjoyed and bought some bottles. He invited us back Monday morning for the cellar tour which we did and was definitely worth it. The 'cathedral' cellars are spectacular, so much so they are now a UNESCO... More

This is a family business and one of the sons gave us a tour which was interesting learning the history. However, I did expect more in the way of the wine cellar. It is marketed as wine cathedrals so I expected big big big. It was a lovely wine cave. I have seen larger cellars built into the mountain in... More

Amazing Visit! The wine is just superb and it is great to hear the history of the family dedication to wine making through the centuries. We loved this visit and we would recommend to anyone who loves wine, old-fashioned wine making, family history and design.

Beautiful tour, great people, great wine - red and white! Try all of the Barbera, but only after you try as many bubbles as possible. What a journey for your pallet!

The visit at the cellars were great, but the tasting was very pour taking into consideration they charge 10 euros (after the discount of 10 euros from the Canelli wine festival ticket has been deducted). They obviously don't see these visits as a marketing opportunity for the wines, but as a visit at a museum with an entrance fee. Spend... More
