It's a fairly straightforward walk down and there is kayaking on offer at the bottom but otherwise it's just a slog back up again .The village offers lunch/snack .

If you go to Ecuador you most go there and so the loop.We did the hike from sigchos to isinlivi then isinlivi to chugchilan then chugchilan to quilotoa and we stayed in quilotoa one night. It was basically an amazing 4 days hike!

The hike from the crater rim back down to the Black Sheep Inn in Chugchilan was arduous but amazing. It's approximately 12 kilometers of up and down trekking. It's particularly breathtaking because of the views and the altitude (12,000 feet).

Amazing scenery through Ecuadorian countryside to arrive at site. Passed by a beautiful canyon and Tigua paintings on the way. There are also terrific local markets. The lake is a collapsed volcanic crater; exceptionally beautiful and geologically unique. Well worth the trip.

Definitely needs to be on your itinerary. Beautiful atmosphere - bring a camera and sturdy shoes to hike down. The hike up isn't too bad but you can always hire a mule to get back up if needed.

The path around the crater rim is not well signed and hard to find but once on it, provides amazing vistas from all angles around the lake. The only downside was a lot of litter - mostly lolly wrappers and other junk food. It really...More
