Ineresting historical site

Enjoyed visiting the fuerte in the town itself. Good exhibits with bilingual (Espanol and English) notes, covering a number of centuries.

Lovely little fort and museum. Definitely worth having a look around. The kids enjoyed it too as the signs were in English and Spanish.

Didn't take long to go through but it was a well preserved historical spot with amazing views of the lake Bacalar. Museum was small but nicely laid out. Cheap entrance fee, worth it if you enjoy learning about the Mayans and history of the area.

This fort and tiny on site museum are interesting to visit. It will not take you more than 30 minutes to see and read everything there is to know about the area's historical piracy era. There are some interesting pieces, a very nice mural, a well preserved building and moat (dry), but the best thing about it is, by far,... More

Fuerte is an old building that helped to defend from pirates. It was re-constructed in century XX and is fully functional. You can visit it in less than 1 hour (not that big as others of its kind), and take some good shots using your camera.

This is an historic site at Bacalar, with great big walls as every fort. Built in 1733 by the Spanish Goverment, to defend the region from the pirates. Interesting to visit, as you can appreciate the architechture and greatness of a fort. There is a nice museum of the fort´s history and the Bacalar region since the precolumbian and colonial... Nice construction with a great view to the Lagoon.. inside there is a small gallery. I'll take you about 20 min to view the entire place.

Nice little fortress of bacalar to protect it from invading pirates and buccaneers. As is bacalar, the fortress is a very small one, still nice to see

If you love history and have an interest in fortifications this is a wonderful example of military science and architecture that should not be missed. The museum has some scellent pièces and very informative text.
