One day last spring we started out with a visit to the Giant's Ring followed by a pilgrimage to the war memorial in Hillsborough village (to pay my respects to my G/Grandfather whose name is engraved on it) and whilst there we took the opportunity to tour Hillsborough Castle and gardens - what a privilege! As a child growing up... More

I was very excited to learn Hillsborough Castle was open to visitors. It's a beautiful place, and our guide, Elizabeth, did a superb job. She combined history with anecdote, was immensely knowledgeable and approachable, spoke clearly and managed the group well. We were able to sit on the sofas and chairs, which somehow made it more special. I'd go back.... More

Unfortunately we were unable to visit Hillsborough Castle as it was closed today. It looks impressive and will shall return to take the tour. It is the official residence of the Queen in Northern Ireland and the venue for the signing of the Anglo Irish peace agreement in 1985. Hillsborough was a small market town and is now a commuter... Our guide was very knowledgeable of all aspects of the history of the castle. She also added a bit of light hearted banter so it didn't feel like a history lesson. My American guests were very impressed

This historic house is where the Queen stays when in Ireland. Very interesting to look round most of the rooms, the furniture, décor, paintings etc. We were lucky as part of our tour we ha cream tea etc. The guide was very friendly. There are extensive gardens which we did not get to see as it was pouring with rain.... More

Hillsborough Castle is home to the Queen when she visits Belfast and it's a stunning property with beautiful gardens. Well worth a visit.

Brilliant, informal, short guided tour of the House which lasted just under an hour. Turned up early so got 40 mins in the gardens too which are well worth a look and could keep you occupied for quite some time on their own. Guide was very pleasant and welcoming with a lot of good factual stories throughout the tour, pointing... More

A great insight into the history of the castle, from being built, right through to its current day functions, with a glimpse into some key political moments. A much more friendly and casual affair than these sorts of things usually are, you can walk right through the rooms, take a seat around the tables and plenty of photo opportunities. The... More

Rather confusing to buy tickets - go to the tourist office in the court house - then go over to the castle. I think this is changing in the future as new visitor centre planned Tours on the hour Reasonable price - especially when compared to Buckingham Palace, Windsor etc! Excellent tour guide - really enthusiastic and knowledgable Very interesting... More
