About
Jokioinen Museum Railway is a living steam railway, where you can either take a scheduled steam train, charter your own private train or just a carriage in a scheduled train for your group. When the trains are not running you can rent real railway hand cars and explore the railway on your own. In June, July and August there is a small museum and cafe open every day at Minkiö station. Over there you can also rent the hand cars. On other times you can reserve the hand car rentals on our web pages. Check also for scheduled steam trains in autumn and winter, like our famous Santa Claus Train!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The five of us travelled on the train and loved it : after getting on the train in Jokioinen, we got off at Minkiö, where the "museum" absolutely enchanted our little one (aged 6). We could visit the inside of many trains/cars freely.
As adults, we would have liked some explanations in English, but after all, it was just as well like this.
And as foreigners, we enjoyed "living like locals", as many of the travelling tourists were finnish.
The people managing the train / museum were VERY friendly, it was nice chatting a little with them, as many finnish people seem not to dare do it with foreigners.
Had our kids been older, we would have rented the self drive cars : but we feared they would not manage and we would end up in the middle of the way with no strength to get back home ;-).

We had a traintrip from Humppila to Minkiö and back. What a joyful day, not only because of the train trip, but also because of the excellent train museum at Minkiö. If you are a train enthusiast, or just generally prefer how things used to be back in good times, you'll love your trip. Truly enjoyed and the staff all around are just lovely. 5 stars without a doubt. If an adventure like this makes you feel 40 years younger, that's a day well spent!

The train goes only summertimes. It leaves from Kuuma,Jokioinen ending stop is in Minkiö station. Sometimes it goes even to next village Humppila. In Minkiö is hold annual steamfestival. There is variety machines which works with steam. You can enjoy real steam sausage or see tractor working with steam.

This must be the smallest and cutest steam engine you can find in Finland! A great experience for a whole family. Highly highly recommend!

A truly hidden gem. If we didn’t have family living close by we would never have know about this place, let alone visited.
It runs trains on Sunday’s from June to August’s end, but it’s worth visiting on other days.
It was quiet on the Tuesday afternoon we visited but the lady in charge was lovely and welcoming.
The family had booked two hand powered pump trucks. The lady phoned the driver of the diesel works train to arrange some shunting with us.
We split into youngsters truck and I was on the old man’s trolley.
It was hard work, mostly up-hill, on the 4km to the picnic place where we shunted, then stopped.
The young-un’s went on a few km and got to 33kph! The old ones listened to birds, looked at flowers and an ants nest, and drank beer.
The way back was easier. It’s a great workout but not for the weak or weak hearted.
We then looked around the engine shed, and ate icecream.
I really love this place. I could never have experienced working a pump truck in the UK. The country was beautiful. Unique day out for me.

I am happy to hear you enjoyed your trip on our hand trollies!
For the youngsters who continued towards Humppila there would have been also a possibility to go and swim as there is a small swimming place with a jumping platform about 5 minutes walk from the Humppila station cross the broad gauge tracks (actually through the underpass).

I think Jokioisten Museorautatie must be amazing place to visit and I recommend it highly but I would personally avoid Minkiö if the same (non-Finn) employee still works there.
I wouldnt recommend Minkiö station, horrible behavior by a non-Finnish man, swearing and moaning while throwing the "resiina" out of the way with anger when a girl before us was trying to use it. Then walked away using bad words, filled with anger. Ridiculous, there were kids hearing this swearing too, glad he didnt seem to be able to talk Finnish. The Finnish workers were all helpful and kind though didnt do anything about it, but this just ruined the visit.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for your bad experience. However we have only one Finnish employee working on hand car rentals. We have more than 800 members in our association and it might be you had the bad experience with one of our volunteers who help us for free. We will inform all our volunteers and stress they would use appropriate language and be polite to our customers!
