I stayed at Marttinen for a work retreat and I really liked it! The surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful. The little cottages very cosy with a nice view on the lake. The food was good too and I enjoyed the activities that we did such as sauna or the pumping cars on the old railroad.

I attended here to meet up with some friends during the yearly dog club summer camp. It was a lovely weekend despite the heavy rain. The staff were very friendly and helpful, whatever your request they tried to accommodate it. The food was very basic and not much variety was offered compared to other similar venues. The place itself is beautiful and the location is fantastic. You will always find a quiet spot when needed. The only thing is that the main buildings are a bit far away from the cottages / cabins and especially in bad weather this may not be very pleasant. Good sauna, and also the cabins do have their own more private saunas which is nice. Good appliances and everything that you need can be found in the cabins. Wouldn't mind staying again.

We visited out of season and whilst the Heritage village was closed meaning that we couldn't enter the buildings and there were no staff to interact with we were still allowed in and had a most enjoyable time discovering things for ourselves. The island is a base camp for children's outdoor activities which Finland does so very well and the accommodation hotel and cafe were still open. Clean fressh and good information from the staff. The preserved wooden buildings were very interesting especially the windmill, wonderfully preserved church boat the history of which we researched later. A walk around the island provided some great photo opportunities and we came across military trenches, the like of which I had not seen before. An enjoyable half day visit

See traditional Finnish wooden buildings in a beautiful setting, visit in the cafe and shops where local handicrafts are sold.
