Lovely little garden
Oct 2019 • Couples
It’s a lovely site. The water fall is the main attraction, with few ducks and a small black swan. A good pit stop on the main road just outside Nordeste.

Excellent little garden outside Nordeste

You could miss this place on the Ribiera Guilherme as the main road breezes by overhead on the new bridge leaving the old stone bridge beneath.
The neat little cascades, polls, ducks and garden all make this an oasis of calm and well tended control.

Small but beautiful garden a few kilometres from Nordeste
Jun 2016 • Couples
We struggled to find this garden as the brown signpost from the EN1 is to 'Parque de Morendas' rather than the 'Garden of Quinta do Moinho'. We arrived at 15.40 to find that the gate to the garden was about to be closed (apparently it shuts at 16.00 - although there were no opening hours advertised). There is no admission charge and parking is free.

Whilst the garden is small it is very beautiful (despite the fact that it is so close to the road). The waterfall, watermill and huge hydrangeas make it very photogenic. Whilst we sprinted around the garden - it would be nice to take it at a more relaxed pace - but 30 minutes would be more than enough time unless you planned a picnic.

We think it's certainly worth a visit if you're visiting Nordeste (as it's only a couple of kilometres north-west of the centre - but it's not signposted from Nordeste itself - instead take the road towards Ribiera Grande).

Quiet botanical gardens with water mill tucked away under a bridge
Jun 2015 • Couples
This is a hidden and poorly advertised spot, but like most of the gardens and miradouros in the Azores is well-tended and beautiful. It is small compared with some of the well-known gardens, but well worth a relaxing hour. There is a parking lot off EN1-1A right at its sharpest bend over Ribeira do Guilherme (coordinates 37.833388, -25.155925). There is plenty of parking, and a easy walk down paved trails along the river, past flower gardens to a restored water mill. To the right is a beautiful waterfall. We only saw one other couple the day we visited. There are gazebos and tables for picnics, but I didn't see any toilet facilities for visitors. Right up the road towards Nordeste is the turnoff to Piscina da Foz da Ribeira do Guilherme, the public pool built where Ribeira do Guilherme reaches the ocean, and a bit further on is the steep road to Farol do Arnel, the very picturesque lighthouse.
