We hit jackpot with this beach on our first day in Crete. So we drove from the north of the island for about 1.15h and weren't disappointed! You can park by the castle for free and walk down a small set of steps to the...More

Its nice after hiking Imbros gorge to swim in this beach and relax. Its close by exit and easier if you book it as an excursion. Be careful to have hats and water with you because there is no shadow on the beach only if...More

A really nice uncrowded beach with sun loungers, umbrellas (€5 hire). Good safe swimming and snorkelling. Nice little taverna selling basic meals and good fresh fish

A nice wide sandy beach, with an old castle. The sea bottom is slowly decending, making it a perfect beach for children.

Good beach. Just below the castle. Small pebbles instead of sand. Easy access. Sun chairs and umbrellas set up on the beach for hire. Safe for the children. We were there in late April. Water still a little cold. Very refreshing. Water very clean

This beach is beautiful with a very safe lagoon for smaller children. Sunbeds and parasols are available to rent.

My favourite beach in Crete. It's sandy and safe for kids and doesn't get crowded like Elafonisi or Balos. There are tavernas nearby and the scenery with the mountains and fortress is stunning.

We visited Greece on September, so there wasn't much people at the beach. The sea is not so calm compared to most beaches in Crete, but it's very nice. We stayed in Chania and drove till Frangokastello. The road trip is very fun too with...More

Stunning beach with snow covered mountains in the distance. Beautiful drive through rugged mountains to get here! Loved the sea, and the fortress behind you. The water was so clear! I bet this is really popular place to be when it is actually warm outside!!

Hi there, I'm in West Crete at the moment, Platanias to be precise and am thinking of going to Frangokastello and (Hora Sfakia) Sfakia for a drive/trip. My partner and I have hired a car which he is driving. My concern however is that I've heard that the road down the mountain towards these places is full of many narrow hairpin bends at a great height and not for the faint hearted, ie those that aren't good with heights. I've heard that it's dangerous and narrow. But I've also heard others say that the roads are fine, it's not dangerous etc and not at all bad. I am one of those that is not good with heights, narrow roads next to sheer cliffs/mountain drops. I'd really appreciate people's experiences and views on this so we can decide what to do. Many thanks 😊
