Rathwood is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Ireland with charming activities that everyone from Grandparents to Grandchildren can enjoy together; free children’s playground, Express train, woodland walks, birds of prey centre and restaurant as well as an array of shops. There is something for everybody. Rathwood, is particularly famous for its Express Train which takes you around the extensive forest grounds, watch out for the deer and sheep along the way and see if you can spot their newly born offspring. It even has a little stop off at the pond to allow you to feed the ducks and geese with food provided by the Train driver. In addition, Rathwood offers attractions such as the Falconry, which is an outdoor educational Bird of Prey Centre where eagles, hawks, falcons and owls from around the world can be seen on display; free Forest walks, with two easy trails that the whole family can enjoy; free children’s playground; cookery classes for both adults and children; deer park and much, much more. Furthermore they house an excellent restaurant which offers an array of delicious lunch dishes and tempting home baking. They are famous for their scrumptious chocolate mud pie and double layered pavlova and all Rathwood's cakes are baked daily by their talented Pastry Chef Margaret, who has been with them for over 18 years. Special diets eg coeliacs are catered for with a delicious selection of gluten free meals and treats. Rathwood hosts a number of special seasonal events throughout the year and advance booking is highly recommended eg The Santa Train - Ireland’s most popular Santa visit with magic and interactive fun with Santa, Mrs Claus and the Elves. The Rathwood Centre in addition to their attraction host an array of shops for you, your family, home and garden. Rathwood has something for the whole family that will make you want to return time and time again.

We went on both the teddy bears picnic and the Santa train last year and found both experiences to be so much fun for both us and our kids. I think that the staff were incredible on both occasions and tge facilities we perfect. The whole experiences were brilliant. I feel very fortunate to have Rathwood nearby.

We held our Dad's 80th birthday lunch in the function room in Rathwood earlier this month. Forty people attended and from the initial phone call to book until saying Good bye after a three hour lunch, we could not have received better quality service, food and attention anywhere else. Would highly recommend Rathwood for an event.

Fantastic place for families acres of space with a lovely looped walk. Food in the restaurant is top class with lovely homemade deserts. Coffee is very good also. Playground right beside the restaurant is a big hit with the kids. It's a great place to spend a few hours.

This is a great destination for lunch or afternoon coffee and a sweet treat. The menu for lunch has a good variety and the portions are excellent. Choices of full dinners, salads, sandwiches and wraps with soup also an option. My favourite part of any visit here is the choice of desserts and cakes. Love their baked cheesecake and their... Have been here on 2 occasions before using a groupon voucher for two of their themed trains and have been so impressed each time. The staff are unbelievable with the kids. We visited again over Christmas as we were staying in a nearby hotel and had a lovely lunch and wander. Great place to visit.

This is a wonderful place for a day out. I don't know why there isn't even a small admission charge, it must cost a fortune to run the place. There is a good restaurant, the deer park, the woodland trail, the woodland train to take you around and some of excellent furniture showrooms. Well done to the people who run... More

Visit for santa train not as good as previous years but still satisfactory, had food in the restaurant which can only be described as over priced and tasteless. Chicken wraps and chips etc nothing too exciting but chips cold and reheated all for the sum of €48. Plenty of scope to offer better food as I do not mind paying... More
