One of the best free thermal water spots around
May 2021 • Couples
Go early in the morning to avoid large crowds, the official parking for camper is about 15min walk away,4 hour for 8 euro, or all day for 10, overnight for 14. Many people park on the road for free, i found it a bit dangerous. Recommended to visit not on hot days to enjoy the hot water more. Very beautiful place.

There are visible signs of dis-respect to this awesome site. Lots of garbage and cigarette butt everywhere. Crowded and no control of any sort. This is bad.

First of all I have to underline the fact that for free Thermal baths, the water is not so bad. And you also have free parking.
For all the rest: people and place I would say a big No NO. Is an open free space for everybody including animals that go inside the water. When I went, it was also full of drunk and strange people, I would not recommend this place for a solo visit or family with children.

A must go!

What an amazing place! The waters round the 38 degrees mark which make it an all year round opportunity to visit. It is a beautiful scenery to see cascades of water falling from one section to the other of the rock formations. Absolutely relaxing and peaceful setting and an amazing nearby village called Saturnia to stay in. There is a restaurant on site where you can get literally anything and parking is free too. It is normally busy but you can always find a spot.

Not much is free but Saturnia is but go at lunchtime for a bit of space. Dedicate minimum of an hour if you want to enter the pools

Natural Hot Springs in the Italian Countryside
Dec 2019
Visiting thermal hot springs is a wonderful (and free!) way to relax and enjoy nature. The Cascate del Mulino Saturnia Falls, the Waterfalls at the Mill, is an exceptional and unique version. Situated an easy 2-hour road trip from either Rome or Florence, these natural sulfuric hot springs have gained international attention for their milky blue waters cascading down white travertine pools. Surprisingly, these falls are still free of charge to the public and draw large flocks of locals and tourists alike. Go early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid the crowds and enjoy soaking in one of the numerous pools if you want the classic instagram shots.

The bottom of the pools can be sharp, so be careful walking or bring water shoes. The water is dirty and due to being sulphuric, you will smell a bit like eggs afterwards and there is no showers to rinse off. However, there are local spas nearby that you can enter with an admission ticket.

There is free parking available on sight and plenty of space to leave your small personal items, i.e. towels and clothes, beside the hot springs.

Impressive geology but shabby surroundings - manage your expectations!
Jan 2020 • Solo
If you’re basing your expectations on idyllic Instagram shots then you might be disappointed, at least for the time being.

The land immediately surrounding cascades appears to be under development, having been recently churned up by diggers. There is also a lot of litter and erosion of the ground left by other visitors. In short, it’s not paradise.

I have no idea if the aims of the development are to eventually improve the appearance of the area, and some people might worry that the cascades will lose their authenticity. The fact is though that the falls are clearly already suffering from the number of visitors as it is, and so it seems wise for better facilities to be provided. The only other solution to preserve places like this is for tourists like me to stop visiting - perhaps we should!

Other than that it is quite amazing to see and bathe in hot water gushing down cascades in the middle of the countryside. The walk up to the village of Saturnia is also pleasant.

I’d recommend going at sunrise if you want to avoid other people. Even in January by the time I left at around 9.30am more and more people were starting to arrive.
