It’s not often that you’ll find a large navigable water way that is an aqueduct that is strong enough to handle commercial transportation, but that’s exactly what the Magdeburg Water Bridge does. The entire length of the bridge helps to control the water displacement so there isn’t any major splashing happening. You can even walk alongside the bridge if you... More

We stopped by very early one winters morning en-route to Kassel from Berlin. Very interesting that it is the largest canal underbridge in Europe. Also known as the Kanalbrücke Magdeburg or Trogbrücke Elbe. Great for a stroll across the bridge and back to take in beautiful scenery. Although it was very quiet when we visited (early and cold), we noticed... More

My wife and I and good friends got to experience this grat achievement. We have never seen a bridge that would take ships across another River. We had the opportunity to view ships going up the River and across the bridge. An engineering marvel. If you have the opportunity we would highly recommend a stop here.

If you are driving on the highway A2, not far from Magdeburg you can have a very nice stop and see this pretty unique construction. On a sunny day there are plenty of cyclists and travelers in the area. There are couple of restaurant nearby, so a snack after the walk is possible.

It is a navigable aqueduct in Germany, opened in October 2003 with a total length of 918 metres. Looks gorgeous as we visited the bridge at sunset

The water bridge of Magdeburg is one of the wonders of German waterways engineering. It is a bridge that allows a canal (the Midland Canal, that runs across Germany to the Rhine)to cross the river Elbe (which goes north south and connects Hamburg and the North sea to the Danube) and to connect with the Elbe-Havel canal (which connects the...
