Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Coming here as Thailand is only starting to open up again was a great pleasure in the sense that we got to see Big Buddha with just 3 or 4 other people so got some fantastic photos.
It is located on its own island and at the base of the temple is a plethora of souvenir shops and places to get refreshments so it's certainly touristy (perhaps a bit too much, but it is what it is).
The short walk up about 80 steps is steep but absolutely worth it, not just for the huge, golden Buddha, but also for the spectacular views all around to different parts of the island, and as others have said, you will often see planes landing or taking off from the nearby Samui airport.
This is a "must see" on the island (albeit there are far more stunning temples on Samui island).

We drove our car to Big Buddha. The Big Buddha is huge. The views at the to to ocean are beautiful. We donated money to the temple. The temple was moderately maintained.

We stopped here to visit on our way to another part of the island and it was worthwhile. The temple is impressive and a wonderful reflection of the local peoples faith. There are a number of cafes around the temple that offer authentic Thai food at very cheap prices. We had a great experience.

A place worth visiting, the statue is visible from all over the Bangrak beach. It is worth going up in the evening to see the sunset

There isn’t much to do in Samui when it comes to visiting cultural sites so Big Buddha is definitely recommended! Worth visiting

Visited Big Buddha temple today & it was beautiful. There are lots of steps up to the top so no good if you’re not able bodied. But the views from the top are stunning. Remember to dress respectfully (covered shoulders & knees covered - both men & women). Lots of ‘influencers’ there today, who clearly have no understanding of being dressed respectfully…..
Well worth a visit

This is a nice temple with good views out over harbour of northern peninsula. You will need to be respectful and cover shoulders and legs to enter site which is free. About 20 or so shops at bottom with reasonably priced tourist fare

Worth the visit, amazing structure and great views from the top. Lots of little shops at the site as well - must do when in Koh Samui

There were many nice shops around Big Buddha. We got a nice picture on the steps leading up to Buddha. Easy to get in and out of area

While in Koh Samui during the rainy season we hired a driver and every time it stopped raining we visited temples and Instagram spots and during a one hour period when it was not raining we made our way to the Big Buddha and made payers by tapping the bells around the Buddha, nobody was here so it was very private and another stunning piece of architecture in Thailand not to be missed.
