after visited xidi then go here, Nanping was totally diff feeling compared with xidi, although that was smaller but not so crowded & the view also traditional architecture isn't worse than xidi, nanping was countryside feeling that would be more peaceful & getting refreshing feeling. good for visit

Great Place To Relax & Unwind
Sep 2017 • Friends
A great quiet village that is over 800 years old in some places .

There are a number of amazing traditional hotels for guests to stay with all mod cons and amenities.

The architecture in the old houses is amazing and the style differs to that of a lot of other Provinces in China .

A great couple of days to sit and relax and unwind exploring all the nooks and crannies and live the slow life for a while .

A lot of the small eateries in this village utilise the produce and meat from their own farm and live stock .

Worth the visit

Nice but not that special
Jul 2016 • Friends
Went to this little village instead of one of the bigger options, with the hope of geting a more genuine experience without the annoying hordes of loud tourists. Since we came here during the hottest time of the year, the village was pretty much empty sp we had the place for ourselves. The buildings were really damaged though. We only found one house that seemed really old and well preserved, with beautiful tree carvings in the cieling. Overall it was a nice experience, but mostly because of the calm atmosphere. If you want to see more of the old houses, go elsewhere.
And be aware that the last local bus leaves at four. We missed ours and had to take an overpriced taxi to get back to the main bus station.

Another beautiful Ming village
A beautiful unspoilt little village. It bills itself as The Movie Village, but there were evidently no films being made when we visited! It seems to be a magnet for art students, but has very few tourists.

Art Students' Mecca
May 2011 • Friends
...or so it seemed. No tourists (besides our group of 3), saw only 5 locals over a period of several hours, but many art students. A beautiful village nestled by Nanping Shan (not sure where the terms 'qianxian' or 'resort' comes from) and one which was used (as well as Mukeng and Hongcun) as a set for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Nanping had its beginnings during the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368) dominated originally by the Ye clan, and eventually it grew during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) when they were joined by the Cheng and Li families. Today there are about 300 Ming and Qing houses, among them 8 ancestral shrines, 72 alleys, and 36 "eye-wells". I believe eye wells evolved as a safety measure - the eye being difficult for children to fall through.
