We didn't know anything about the mountain, but it was part of the trip to the Hanging Temple our hostel in Datong helped us arrange, but it is definitely worth combining it with a trip to the temple! Mt Hengshan is close to Xuankong Shi and both places should be visited on the same day. Hike up Mt Hengshan takes more than an hour normal pace and up above are old palaces dated AD435 now converted to temples. Some are off shut off to public though. The scenery of Hengshan is not as amazing as Huashan. Mostly it's about the group of temples on the mountain. There is passenger cableway available. The cableway station is located at the foot of the mountain where the first parking area is. The second parking area is further into the mountain. The tricky thing is to decide if you want... More
