Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having looked at previous reviews it was very hard to guage what this would be like. The climb that you see in the photo on any page is steep but isn't a major problem personally just need to stay in a low gear and take it handy. However on reaching the peak you then literally cant see anything as if you are at the top of an extremely high rollercoaster! Thankfully we had a lovely dry day but I was not willing to stop in the car park as I would've lost my nerve to be able to continue in any direction. The downward side is very steep in parts and sharp bends and thankfully we didn't come across many other cars. A huge sigh of relief was had when finished the decent and the heart rate came back to normal. My advice is make sure you have a calm co-pilot with you to assist in calming. They told me after the fact that night with a few drinks to celebrate still being alove that there were 2 cars on top of each other in the gap "fallen" off the top.

By a comparison to the Skellig road or the Ring of Kerry in general this was much worse but doable

Great location, sadly the low cloud restricted the views, but still worthwhile travelling the narrow roads.

My husband, toddler, baby and I were advised to go through the Gap of Mamore by a local when he heard we were going to Dunree Head and boy oh boy we were not disappointed. I was brave enough to drive up while ascending to the summit but lost my nerve for the descent when I saw the view at the top. Thankfully the fearless husband took over for the descent. Truly amazing drive and views. We missed St Eigne's well which seemingly provides a cure but glimpsed the shrine at the summit. We were bemused when we spotted a sign for the 'Magic Road' on the descent??? Narrow road, hairpin bends but the experience & views were so worth it. We were disappointed to note doughnuts on the road at various points (from boy racers) and litter at the view point.
My absolute biggest tip is whatever you do when you descend the gap & come to the junction is go left to Lenankeel beach/Lenan Strand. Heavenly🙌🙌🙌.

As we were driving towards it you’re suddenly away you’re quite remote. Then you turn towards the gap and see just a long narrow road road going up between two peaks.

As you go over the crest and down slightly around a winding road it opens up into a simply stunning view of the surrounding area and ocean. It has to be seen to be believed. Incredible!

Beautiful views from the top but not for the faint hearted or those with a dodgy clutch! I think I can still smell the burnt out clutch of my mums corsa from here! Also make sure your handbrake is good and tight before you decide to park at the top...

This is a beautiful drive and although a little dodgy in parts when you meet oncoming traffic, it’s well worth it. You could stand there for hours just admiring the view.

I have known Mamore Gap for almost fifty years. I always love going there and admiring the view. Stopping the car in the pass and taking a few moments is always an awe inspiring experience.

Stunning views and a very fun drive. The roads are wide and well maintained so would even be suitable for nervous drivers.

It's much easier to drive up the gap now with the improved road. The views are amazing and the shrine near the summit is well worth a visit with the waterfall
