The six century old Ponnani Juma Masjid which is believed to have built by Zainuddin Makdoom I, the desendent of an Arab Theologian who visited Ponnani became a learning center of Islam. The famous book "Tuhfatul Mujahideen" about the historical account of Malabar was written by Zainuddin Makdoom II staying in this mosque. The Masjid was constructed in Keral style Architecture mainly using wood and the tomb of the Hindu carpenter who later converted to Islam and named Ashari Thangal and Zainuddin Makdoom I is in the Masjid compound. A lamp used by Zainuddin Makdoom II and an ancient sword are still in the masjid. The Masjid is still in perfect condition and the annual festival (Nercha) is during the month of March/April.

A must visit place for all muslims in India, the place has got lot of divine energy around. The five stroried architecture of the masjid is believed to have built from a single wood. And the arabic calligrahy works on the wood are such a treat to eyes and mind. The masjid was built in 14th century by Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdoum (RA) of Yemen who came to Kerala part of preaching Islam in 16th century. You can see lot of things of archeological importance inside the masjid.
